Disappointment in thinning Dragon content

Actually i believe, it is a lot of work to doublecheck everything if it is at the right power level, and with growing content, it becomes even more difficult to look up if there is any loophole.
So what we get is the possibility to test a lot of things out, give feedback and test it, and chances we receive something balanced and well tested will increase in the end.

Also I am glad that they are stopping adding playtest "garbage" into the characterbuilder, as it is already full of feats I´d rather not have in the CB. With every dragon article, there are quite a few feats coming, and the CB becomes less and less useful without restricting access to dungeon magazine sources.

Also I am a fan of unbalanced material. As a DM i am glad to use them to spice up a campaign, and I certainly don´t want a player to have free access over them. So what we need is a DM tool, where we can just add those things ourself.

In light of all the grassroots efforts of the OSR movement, and models like Kobold and the old Dragon and Dungeon to follow, I'm beginning to think the fan base should put efforts into more of their own e-projects and fill the void we're all feeling.

Admittedly we're not designers, but so what? I'd welcome free material from the 4e fan base, be it a megadungeon, adventure, campaign outline, a collection of fluff and legends from homebrew settings, hazards and challenges that have worked in people's games, monsters made with the adventure tools, art, riddles, anything, everything.

I mean having seen the awesome work on projects like Stonehell Dungeon, Dungeon of the Mad Archmage, Lamentations of the Flame Princess, and just my following of the old school blogs in general, I feel 4th edition needs to be reminded of the do-it-yourself aspect. We don't need to be added to the CB or AT to be viable, and it looks like we definitely aren't getting into the magazines anytime soon hehe. The system is pretty maleable and easy to work with, and I think WotC is striving to make it even more so, and demonstrate you don't have to be confined by what came before.

So in all seriousness, get cracking and starting distributing! I really want to see your material. And I'll put something out too, within the month even. I'm tired of making these plans to work on this someday, someday.

And Urnearthed Arcana articles could be the way to allow common people an easy way to contribute to the dragon content, which could result in even more awesome.

I thought the Unearthed Arcana anoucement looked great, like a response to this thread!

Of course, many disagree. Which is part of the problem WotC faces.

I'm stoked about the new section and the new essential stuff.

Maybe we'll see a change in direction over the next few issues.

Here's the flip side though. We're paying for them to add that 'garbage' to it. No seriously, that's one of the supposed benefits of being a subscriber that we get content updated to the CB.

Now if about 99% of previous conversations of 3rd party material has said, "Yeah, it's useless without putting it into the CB for ease of rerence and access.", what does that tell you about material that WoTC is publishing? Put that crap in a blog or something if it's "not meant to be used" and keep the Dragon and Dungeon content updated in the CB.

Sarcasm

I get the feeling the content calendar isn't totally finished yet... It seems like they just tossed a few things up there to get it up, and might be slightly behind finalizing everything... Possibly due to attendance at PAX?

If only there were someone whose core responsibility was updating the web site, regardless of what conventions were coming up.

If only there were a way to post-date content, or a content calendar, so that these things could be queued before the content is due to be viewed and before any conferences.
