Swords also sell for a lot. If you lack the carrying capacity for it, that's one thing. My groups get bags of holding and such ASAP so that they don't have to needlessly leave treasure behind. Things pay for themselves rather quickly, really.

Yes. Disarm, Trip, and Grapple can all be substituted for a melee attack, including AoOs.
