I saw 2e as being a money grubbing, with new and different rules published in every book. The DMG was rather thin on content, IMO. The combat rules you wanted were probably in complete fighter, or player option: combat, or some other book.
In 3e/d20 I see the System Reference Document. I see a system that some thought put into it, with an eye to simplicity and fun. Each book actually has things to use. I have played the Paladium system (Rifts and others) along with GUPPS. They just look like piles of rules heaped on each other.
The system was written well so they could use it without ripping it appart. Which do people play more: D&D or Harn? No customers, no new material. The fact that there is advertising here for harn, on a d20 site, shows that Harn is feeding off D&D's success.

That's waht you have been saying. But KapKantrip has tried to sell us the Hârn system. If I go to Hârn boards and "evangelise" about D&D played in Hârn, that'd be O:K:, if I "evangelise" about D&D using Forgotten Realms, then I'd be being unpolite. IMHO, of course
