(Discussion) General Part IV

I think that's also part of the problem, CS.

When you 'have no intention' of approving something, not only is it impossible for people to know that unless you POST that you have no intention of approving it, slow connection notwithstanding, but since Judges are too afraid of sounding impolite to drop the hammer, people (myself included) take that as, "Oh, it's just not ready yet/the judges aren't back at college/Christmas bump!; but all I have to do is balance it, and Living EnWorld will finally have (for example) spaceships, with Astronaut as a new Core class, so that my PC can be the first PC in space!!"

At least, that's the nightmare I've got working. Even just doing a PrC, I had to take a step back and say, 'OK, who is this for? Does the world need clerics with insane weaponsmithing skills?'

I dunno, maybe it's the Christmas spirit working, but people's imaginations are on overdrive, I think. Judges would be doing us a favor if they said, "No, not ever. Don't waste your time" sometimes, especially if they meant it.

I'm not sure I know where dpdx is coming from. What all has been approved? I can recall approving one prestige class and that was it.
Macbeth approved a new Core class, and Uriel's in what I'd consider 'negotiations' with GnomeWorks so that bad guys can have guns. It ain't just about you.

Hi there,

I'm just wondering what the powers that be say about the multiclassing penalties of Monks and Paladins. I've heard some tell about disregarding them but then, we'll be using core rules so... what's the ruling?

I apologise in advance if this has been answered before...

No judge "approves" a class. They just weight wether or not they think the current thing deserves to be approved. The guns thing seems wrong to me. Also, try not to make consecutive posts when you can.

Right now we are still not allowing paladin and monks to break the DnD guidelines for their class restrictions.

I understand that - my original statement was shorthand to indicate that Macbeth had voted 'yes' on a core class already. Reference my earlier statement; saying the guns thing 'seems wrong to [you]' isn't a definitive enough statement to make the proposal go away, and that's part of the problem. If you're going to be a judge, have some nad.

Also, try not to sound like a pedantic, arrogant little a*****e when you can. Even at the zenith of your power, you're a moderator for one forum on a messageboard; that isn't enough to tell someone who's likely twice your age how and when to post.

Wow, things sure got hot around here in that last few hours as I did the 'visit with the parents' thing.

Clearing up a few things as far as I see them/feel about them.
This is a long one, sorry, but I want to try and spell out my position in relation to questions, remarks and suppossed collaberations.

Judges
Firstly, I think of the Judge position as a sort of cheerleader, organizer and (hopefully) someone to help the players and DMs if they get a snag here or there.
This may be presumptuous (Ok, no it's not, but I don't want to sound arrogant), but of the Judges, I seem to be the only one who has been in active mode recently.
I understand that CS has been at school and Garyh has been...Um, Garyh, are you even part of LEW? I don't see you around much, and I miss you (sniff).
Macbeth is a trooper, chiming in and answering whatever questions/addressing issues as he can.
My problem is that (unlike many of you, I'm sure), I am not the most computer literate guy. While those around me spent endless hours tinkering/learning on these blasted things, I was...ironically, playing D&D (you know, with dice and all...), as well as doing the musician thing. Thus, I can't/wouldn't want to be a Mod on ENWorld, even if it was offered to me.Were that I was a Mod and could have cleaned up all of the threads andlittle bits requested over the last few weeks in CS's' absence, but alas...

Regarding Submissions
I am going to go on record here (and win a few 'Boos!' I am sure) and say that I am generally not a fan of class/PrC/Race/Feat/whatever submissions.
I guess that I misunderstood the concept of LEW, taking the idea to mean a Living PbP World, similar to the RPGA's Living Greyhawk, where you used the established and official material and the creative part was in your character input/RPing. I did not take it to mean that we would (as LEW) end up with a million (or even a few dozen) classes and prestige class, races etc...with lengthy debates regarding their inclusion.
LEW to me was a World where characters could interact with relative frequency with different characters and different DMs, not one where we suddenly had lots of class and race variants to approve and include every week.
I am not against folks using their creativity, and I have several classes etc that I could/would like to throw out, but I thought that this was a playing forum, not a think-tank. I have refrained from commenting on many of the Submissions primarily because I am not in favor of including a slew of them and (in a dearth of other Judge input) I didn't want to be the only Judge going over them.
I hope that didn't sound like I was downing the concept, it's just not my focus in LEW.

As far as firearms go, I can take them or leave them. They are in the DMG, so I thought that they might be a possibility.I don't need them in my games, folks seem to like them just fine without. So, I would vote a No on them, should it come up, as it seems to have upset several players.

As far as non-Canon WotC, I guess am the biggest culprit, since I have run 4 games so far (my current 2 should both end in the next day or so, thanks for the great posting, btw folks), having dragged the Feral template into the game from the Savage Species book.
Bad Ron, er, I mean Uriel.
I'm sorry if I have set a bad example/prescedence, but, as I said before, folks seem to like the story.

The Trading Post was a great idea (It was mine, so I'm to blame, I guess...) if other DMs would have finished some adventures. As it looks (again sounding like an arrogant ass), none of the games other than mine seem to have gone very far, apologies to those who are plodding along awaiting DMs/players input. I guess I was just lucky to garner a group of players each time that actually like to post. Hopefully, a few will embark on my next adventure, be it connected to the current storyline or otherwise.

Thanks,
-Uriel

Uriel, you are right that you and Macbeth have the floor right now as far as judging goes. My internet/exam/computer access problems are not going away either.

I favor some submissions, as I've said before. My perspective though, has been, to rely on the community for any decision making about such stuff. If a lot of people support something, then I'll support it so long as I don't have any qualms with it's particulars. You did clearly state that LEW is not about the submissions and extranious material so much as it is about having the ability to interact between games.

Thanks for the prompt response! :)

If I could just voice my opinion on the latest discussion, I pretty much expected Core Rules only for LEW. I'm not opposed to player made PrCs, classes, feats, whatever though I'm not a fan of 'em either. On the other hand, I expect GMs to use whatever material (Core or otherwise) they want in their games, as is my own practice.

As long as it's fun, that's all.

And Uriel, I like the story. :D (Please don't kill me too quickly)

nimisgod, is that e-mail going to be about the Dragon Disciple prestige class and fitting it into the storyline for Ishmael? Cause I have a request regarding that too.

I'll post my actions tomorrow (It's 12:30 here)...trying to figure out what to do...

Thanks and...um...did you plan on Charging the Demon? :D
I guess your Fate is in your own hands (you could kick his Abyssal butt, you know!)
Twice i have rolled a '20' for your hits and failed to confirm, damned dice...
At least you aren't poor Gnomeworks who will(most likely) wake up, check his games and see that he is on Death's Door...Ack.

My email, for those having requested it is bluehead6_9@yahoo.com without the underscore (Damned Spam Trolls).
