Needs more lens fla...

That's cool. Except for the background, which is too different than the actual logo/whatever.

I don't see any of the jobs you listed becoming particularly popular among characters Knight Otu..

You mean NPCs perhaps?

Well, I can tell you there is one job in that list that is played by myself: merchant. Rinaldo di Senzio a spice merchant (and spices aren't that successfull for trade, so he is thinking to recycle in magical item merchant...). I even created a prestige class, Trader, as I want him to become one.

What is the purpose of a PC having one of these jobs? Do they accumulate wealth between adventures or something? Sorry if I'm being dense, but I'm not sure what your after. Retirement positions? Won't this get us back to the "how much time passes between adventures" problem that craft points seemed designed to circumvent?

Happy to brainstorm once I have a better idea what I'm looking for.

A couple of more suggestions for occupations:

Sailing Master (Ship Captain)
Miller (Operator of a grist-mill)

Really, just about any sort of small business that you might find in LEW could have a PC proprietor.

So it's just flavor?

Here are some:

Spy
Bounty Hunter
Gladiator
Champion for Hire/Duelist
Tax Collector
Advocate/Attorney
Judge
Healer/Doctor
Mob Boss
Mob Enforcer
Con Artist
Court Mage
High Priest
Teacher

...the mind boggles at endless possibilities!

hi. new to LEW. my name is ryan and I hail from Tampa area. Just moved from Berea, ky where I went to school. Missing all my d20 friends dearly. Hope to join you all in this, it looks like a lot of fun.

I like the job brainstorm. I think these kind of things are essential for background. I have noticed that the forum style of playing allows for much much more roleplaying then actual hack and slash or puzzlesolving. I think that in downtime between adventures characters should be allowed to pursue other means of income. For example, my character I just spent two hours creating is a professional card player. In between adventures I fully plan on being at the inn trying to convince other players to play some games with me for both coin and prestige.

I think that if a somewhat wealthier PC wanted to open a merchant shop, that they should be able to open their own thread and other pcs can visit and browse the wares to stock up before heading out on a new adventure. Or, a ship captain PC could be paid by a party to transport them to an island, ect. Of course all of this is up to the judges and will only happen after some of our PCs are mature enough in both xp and gp to do such task.

Given that I started the job brainstorm, I guess I should answer Patlin's question.

Flavor is a part of it, and an important part. It does not have to be "only" flavor though. As Dexerion said, it can also act as a potential source of income, and for craft-based jobs, additional Craft points. Maybe we could go a bit further, even. An Orussus Council Member would surely benefit some sort of recognition.

And shop threads are also certainly a possibility.
