Disruptive Strike Question

It's really good, but not huge. As you have to declare it before you know the result of the attack, you probably only change the outcome of the attack 1 time in 3 or 4 that you hit. So maybe (say) once every 6 fights. But it also does damage as an interrupt on an event that happens in 99% of all fights.

So very good, but not crazy good.

To answer the poster's question, I'd say just on hitting the one person in question would be the right answer from a balance viewpoint. Doesn't make a lot of sense with a burst though...

For a ranger with a +2 wis modifier (-5 penalty), this means, that there is a 5 in 20 (or 1 in 4) chance that your Disruptive Strike will have any effect on the the attack.

Assuming the ranger hits with half his attacks, we are down to a 1 in 8 chance of the Disruptive Strike affecting the triggered attack. Thats very bad odds in my book.

When only one attack roll is affected, this becomes a rather useless gesture.

Useless? Not really.

This is one extra attack with a 50/50 chance to hit (as per your example).

That's similar to using an action point in power (and not on your own turn).

On top of that, approximately one successful attack in four will kill a standard foe (not an elite or solo which require more hits).

So, there is an up to 12.5% chance of killing many types of foes (causing the foe to miss), plus a 12.5% (as per your math) chance of causing the foe to miss due to the penalty.

The disruption math is not just 12.5%. It's between ~12.5% and ~25%, depending on type of foe and the condition of the foe.

So, we get both a free attack (50% chance of damage) and between a 12.5% and 25% chance of totally disrupting an attack. That's actually fairly potent. And the smart Ranger player often targets bloodied foes with this to up his chance of outright killing the foe.

One other note: If one does kill the foe with an immediate interrupt and the foe was doing an area attack, it does protect all of the allies. So, it does protect in some cases for all of the allies.
