Depends on how you look at "god-involvement".
In my last campaign, the party made an enemy of one of the evil religions (cut one of their priestesses in half!). They ended up having to fight them occaisionally, and as a result were directly intertwined against them. I dont' consider this a "use of gods" scenario, the party did make enemies of them.
The main plot of my last campaign revolved around stopping a renegade elven organization from subverting the entire area. This group of elves "captured" several cities, mostly through influence, and only a couple by force. The party ended up collecting the pieces of an artifact, and used said artifact to imprison their leader, an elven wizard.
