DMs have favourite monsters, now.

I really wish I could really run things. The lack of a solid game is hurting. I know what you mean; there are so many monsters I am just aching to throw at people.

Just a few that look really good on paper to me:

Shadar-kai witch: Not only can she give everyone concealment (Go go hiding allies with combat advantage!) and do damage/slow people down, but more importantly the witch can kill line of effect for someone[/i]. The Beshadowed Mind can reduce line of site to 2 squares. No other monster can do that.

The Yaun-ti all have sexy powers, but the Incanter who can daze or dominate someone taking ongoing poison damage is wicked, and it goes perfect with, well, anything that does poison.

It may sound selfish when I tell my players that 4e will be fun because it's more easy and fun for me to DM combat encounters (I have fun roleplaying regardless of the system). But its true that if the DM is enjoying the game, the players are in for a better time than when he isn't.

Ha. It's funny how we keep looking to the classics. I mean, my fave is the human bandit, which is pure vanilla fantasy. And the kobold love is very similar.

I'm having fun playing around with my DMG right now, editing monsters and swapping abilities. I'm thinking a goblin wizard with the devastator template added, turning him into a warmage. That'd be pretty cool.

I've always liked the carrion crawler... I'm also glad there are two versions of it... So it can rear it's uggly... uhh head? more then once. :p

Carrion Crawlers rock. I like the idea of a crawler on a leash, leading around a hobgoblin. Pure fun.

Kinda funny how Mearls, master monster redesigner he is, never put the Rust Monster in the MM. cracks me up, but probably a good call.

That's because his design of the Rust Monster apparently upset a lot of traditionalists.

Luckily, those very same traditionalists are in love with 4e. And they keep posting how much they love 4e on the ENWorld boards. ;)
