Kikyik is an average-looking kobold in that he is reptilian and scrawny-looking. Unlike most of his brethren, however, Kikyik is a lot tougher than he looks. He is faster, smarter, and tougher than an ordinary kobold, though he is just as weak physically as the rest of his kin.
What really sets Kikyik apart is his hypnotic, sapphire scales. Being quite attractive to begin with (for a kobold), Kikyik’s exotic look only helps his diplomatic endeavors.

Kikyik is a natural leader. He is good at getting what he wants from other people, though always within the boundaries of the law. Kikyik is a calm, calculating genius who likes to let others do most of the work. While he is by no means defenseless, Kikyik generally avoids combat when he can, preferring to fight with words. When forced into physical battle, he prefers to stay in the back, using his dragon-heritage powers to tip the scales. If pressed into close combat, he jabs with his spear, retreating out of harms way after each pathetic strike. He knows full well of his physical weakness, and generally stays away from hand-to-hand brawls.

Kikyik can trace his lineage back to Sapphire dragons. He is able to draw upon this heritage and use many draconic abilities unimaginable by normal Kobolds. He is also psionic, another gift form his draconic ancestors. Though the only one to show signs of gem dragon heritage, Kikyik is not the only dragon-wrought kobold in his clan. He has many friends in his clan, including his mate, Alkiki.

While he loves Alkiki, he knows that she does not feel the same way. Being the daughter of a lowly miner, Alkiki knew she wouldn’t get very far in life. When she noticed Kikyik, one of the Dragon-Chosen, eyeballing her, she was overjoyed. Producing a dragon-wrought egg would mean instant social elevation. Being a dragon-wrought himself, Kikyik was most likely to father a Dragon-Chosen himself. She encouraged his advances and let him into her home. Their first egg was unfortunately not one of the Chosen, and Alkiki was infuriated. Seeing the other females eyeing her one ticket to social greatness, she forced him to make her his pledge-mate. That way, only she could mate with him.

Alkiki is currently pregnant, and should be ready to lay her next egg in a month or two. Whether the egg will turn out to be Chosen or not is unknown. Kikyik tries not to think about it, fearing her reaction if it turns out to be a normal kobold.

Kikyik is the official liaison between his clan and the upperworlders. He is currently visiting a small farming village in the hopes of opening a trading agreement. With a steady supply of food, his clan could expand their borders safely, without worry of overpopulation.

Do be honest, I like this bio. He seems like an ordinary kobold with extraordinary powers. He's got a job, a wife, and a kid. He's got marital problems, and he stays away from his wife when he can (why do you think he took the job as a diplomat so quickly?). It feels genuine to me, and plus, he has a real reason for being at the farming village. He's not a hero, not an adventurer, though certianly he may be forced into that position. I like him... he's my little Kobold who will roast your hiney if you make fun of his size! :D

Hey, guys!

I'm working on a human fighter - putting together the stats isn't a problem but it would be really useful to know just a little more about the setting. What sorts of religions do you have, NM? (Particularly interested in LG/NG religions.) How big is this village? What's the local church/temple? How far is the nearest city? If there's a document I'd love to see it... :)

Paper Bard, your character looks really cool - looking forward to playing with him! :D

Paper Bard,

Nice character write-up. How long do you think has Kikyik been negotiating with the folk of the valley? I ask because Daffyd would probably have been called upon to Detect Magic and so forth during any first contact (and possibly further meetings) to ensure that no magical naughtiness ensued.

Depending on what season the campaign starts in, it might be kinda interesting to write in a casual acquaintance between the two arcanists from last Autumn. That gives us the option of "so how are things at home?"-type conversations; making them fast friends already seems a bit of a cheat, though.

Thoughts?

Appearance and Background:There's nothing normall in Ildym's appearance. He's tall, even for a human, and he has a massive and strong body. At a first glance, he may be seen as just a tough and strong brawler, however he has surprised many enemies with exceptional speed of body and mind. His reflexes are well trained and he can almost always land the first blow, when meeting an adversary.

He carries a good amount of iron: a greatsword, a longsword and a heavy steel shield. However his armor is not that heavy: he dislikes moving as a turtle. When in dire situations, he draws his longsword and shield and fights defensively.

Ildym was born in a little mountain village 25 years ago. His childhood hasn't been happy, as his family was poor and the village was always risking attacks by the savage tribes nearby. At the age of 15, his village was destroyed and he ran away after seeing his famiars fall. Finding a little company of mercenaries, he was trained in the way of the sword and since then he has been driven by the desire of wealth.

Ildrym has a sharp intellect...and a sharp tongue. He doesn't get along with serious (an boring) people, and his sarcasm has brought him many enemies.

Nowdays, he is resting in a little village, sensing that soon his skills will be needed...and well payed.

Catrin

17-year-old Catrin is the daughter of a preoccupied local priestess, raised primarily by her grandmother, who lives in the village. Her father was a soldier who died not long after she was born - or so she’s told. Since childhood she’s been tomboyish and outdoorsy, and though expected to train as a priestess herself, she never showed the slightest inclination towards it. She managed three days in the training programme before offending the leading priest so badly he threw her out.

It’s six months now since her “big disgrace” - and Catrin has barely set foot in temple or spoken to her mother since. She’s still living with her grandma, tending what’s left of the family farm (a couple of milking cows, some chickens and pigs, and two dogs) and training in her free time with an old soldier who lives in the village. She’s dying to join up with some army - any army - and fight, because nothing ever happens in this place.

Appearance: Catrin is mid-height and slim, with short dark hair and eyes, and fair skin. She's built quite broad, but despite her strength and toughness, doesn't look terribly imposing. With her severe haircut, armoured and with a big sword strapped to her hip, she could almost pass for a boy a year or two younger than herself...

LOL, cool! :)

By the way, Derrick: since Daffyd and Catrin have both lived in the valley area a while, I wonder if we might have come across each other before? (Heck, he might even remember when she was born...)
