DnD 3.5 - Valley of the Dead

I peeked, Merry (or the older sister if that's the little girl's name, I can't recall), wants to knock boots, so I totally understand Thok's overwhelming willingness to murder Latham over that opportunity. Latham's just being stubborn.

And I'm not sure exactly what the rule is for silent spells. He put his hands in his pockets to grasp the rod and do the somatic components, but elsewise it'd be difficult to note. Shouldn't just a standard Spellcraft check work to notice a spell going off? But the skill says you must see or hear the spell's verbal and somantic components, so I'm torn.

C'mon Voda, I looked at Thok's sheet, you've got a 10% chance to save! Be the hero, get the girl!

OOC: Say what?? When did this happen?? Merry is suppose to be this beauty and Thok is.. is.. well Thok.

I said I saw Voda Vosa on and then he wasn't when I turned to the next thread. :( Maybe tommorrow.

Question is will anyone know if a spell was cast? Kye had his eye on the monk so no question he won't see anything but was wondering if it didn't work would there be some indication in Thok's reaction. And does Latham give the apperance of being a wizard? Wish he had a pointy hat would make it easy.

Herriman knows, Alevyth knows, they might be the only two in the room save for Keht, who doesn't speak/understand Common as a language. But since Kye was quick to make friends with those two... well, I doubt they'd be forthcoming.

By the way, I don't intend on Keht entering a fight as, well frankly, he's not quite good. But I did take a feat I'm dying to try out, it makes those who he stunning strikes have to save versus becoming nauseated. So I'm picturing this githzerai monk slamming some poor soul in the diaphragm and forcing six seconds of vomiting. Does Kye volunteer? :D

ethandrew the somatic components are not limited to the mage's fingers. Otherwise there would be no ASF penalty for wearing armour. Plus, the feat "still spell" exists for a reason :) You can cast a silent spell (Latham uses a rod for that? Please take note of how you do each action, what items are used etc.), but anyone can see the somatic components and also see Latham reach for his spell component pouch (the material components for Suggestion are a snake’s tongue and either a bit of honeycomb or a drop of sweet oil.)

So yes, Kye can go ahead and roll his Spellcraft check.

I was waiting for that clarification before rolling. Since Thok can see he is now threaten by Latham he gains a +5 to his save, by the description of the spell.

I re-read the entry in the PHB.

My bad, the spell only has Verbal and Material components. So the only thing Thok will see is Latham reaching for some thingies in his pocuh. He'd have to succeed on a Wis 15 roll to notice that something is up.

[sblock=Suggestion]Suggestion
Enchantment (Compulsion) [Language-Dependent, Mind-Affecting]
Level: Brd 2, Sor/Wiz 3
Components: V, M
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target: One living creature
Duration: 1 hour/level or until completed
Saving Throw: Will negates
Spell Resistance: Yes

You influence the actions of the target creature by suggesting a course of activity (limited to a sentence or two). The suggestion must be worded in such a manner as to make the activity sound reasonable. Asking the creature to stab itself, throw itself onto a spear, immolate itself, or do some other obviously harmful act automatically negates the effect of the spell. However, a suggestion that a pool of acid is actually pure water and that a quick dip would be refreshing is another matter. Urging a red dragon to stop attacking your party so that the dragon and party could jointly loot a rich treasure elsewhere is a likewise reasonable use of the spell’s power.

The suggested course of activity can continue for the entire duration, such as in the case of the red dragon mentioned above. If the suggested activity can be completed in a shorter time, the spell ends when the subject finishes what it was asked to do. You can instead specify conditions that will trigger a special activity during the duration. For example, you might suggest that a noble knight give her warhorse to the first beggar she meets. If the condition is not met before the spell duration expires, the activity is not performed.

A very reasonable suggestion causes the save to be made with a penalty (such as –1 or –2) at the discretion of the DM.

Material Component: A snake’s tongue and either a bit of honeycomb or a drop of sweet oil.[/sblock]
