Do high level Psions get the shaft or is it poetic justice for the arcane & divine

Well, Reality Revision is the equivalent of Wish.

Apopsi
Microcosm (holy crap, a save-or-die without a save)
Timeless Body
Mindswitch, True
Psychic Chirurgery

I'd include Timestop, but that's a 6th level psion power...

using the resources I have available to me now srd 3.5 there are 24 9th level Wiz/Sor spells compared to just 7 9th Psion powers

I count 15 9th level psion powers, are you sure you read that right?

Correct.

As a side note, I don't own, nor have I seen Complete Psion, so I'd rather keep this to the core as well.

That said, I'll not argue that there are not more Sorcerer/Wizard 9th level spells than there are 9th level psion powers. There are. Especially when you start to add in the various supplements.

The arcanist's variety comes from the sheer number of spells available to him. The psionic powers are generally more versatile (or have the versatility built into them), however.

Now, if we can keep KarinsDad from seeing this thread, that'll cut off another 2. :p

No such luck! :D

As for the quantity of 9th level Spells, sure the Wizard has more. But, nearly half of the lower level Psionic powers can be augmented to higher level (not including what can be done with feats).

The real advantage Wizards have is in Metamagic Rods and Sudden Spell feats. Otherwise, many of his high level spells tend to not increase in potency that much as he increases levels unlike the Psion.

I do notice that Astral Construct has a hard maximum. As written, you just can't get a better Astral Construct than Astral Construct IX, even if you are 300th level.

On the other hand, illusionists lose a lot of power at epic levels, as creatures with epic spots automatically see through many of the illusions.

Etherealness == Etherealness
Teleport Circle == Psi Teleport Circle

Wish ~= Reality Revision
Summon Monster IX ~= augmented Astral Construct
Time Stop ~= augmented Temporal Acceleration
Meteor Swarm ~= Tornado Blast
Dominate Monster ~= augmented Psi Dominate
Shapechange ~= Greater Metamorphosis (but Shapechange is much cheaper)

Imprisonment >> Microcosm
Assimilate >> Energy Drain

Foresight vs. Time Regression ... hmm. They both kinda suck.

That leaves:

Astral Projection, Prismatic Sphere, Shades, Weird and Wail of the Banshee, Disjunction, Power Word: Kill, and Gate

vs.

Genesis, Psychic Chirurgery, Affinity Field, Metafaculty and True Mindswitch

Hmm... keeping in mind that the Psion has access to very few of those, BUT that he can use them more times each day, I'd say that on balance, it's a wash.

Wizards get broken tricks (e.g. Celestial Dragon via Gate), and Psions get broken tricks (e.g. heal -> double mass heal using Affinity Field + Psicrystal).

Cheers, -- N

Also keep in mind that more does not always equal better. If you've ever sat around the table with a player making a wizard, you know of what I speak.

Yes, I'm not arguing that there is true power in versatility. Of course there is. But the simplicity of a psion (or sorcerer) can also be an advantage. Don't think that 24 options is always better than 15 (or however many).
