Do high level Psions get the shaft or is it poetic justice for the arcane & divine

Well, the only reason why there aren't as many 9th level psionic powers is because there are new spells in virtually every book published for D&D. Many of them could easily be converted into psionic powers. Or new ones can be researched. Lack of powers compared to caster classes isn't an inherent weakness of psionic classes.

Even just bringing in examples that are in the SRD, though, Psions have fewer 9th level powers than there are 9th level Wizard spells in the Core rules, and more than half of those powers are restricted to a single specialist type.

Augmentation helps a lot with this.

It's absolutely true that Wizards (and Clerics & Druids) get a large power boost from allowing an arbitrary number of supplements. :)

But even just confined to the SRD, Wizards win in terms of number of spells available. (Clerics win even more, of course.)

Look at the package of the Psion class as a whole. They do have several useful powers but then again Wizards have greater access and flexibility. Most powers are useful and equivalent upto the highest of levels. There is more overall balance. Most are arguing a specific power of the Psions powers are imbalanced or underpowered. I think that overall this is a fairly balanced class that only may need a few minor tweaks.

I think it is part of the design. Lower level psion powers often come with high level effects tagged on as an augment.

You should go through and count all the psionic powers which have augments unobtainable until 17th level or higher.

Evade Burst grants evasion for 13pp, but improved evasion for 17pp. As noted, augmented Temporal Acceleration is equivalent to Time Stop. And you really don't need high level energy damage/ save or die effects if you have an appropriate low level effect which can be augmented up.
