I work part time for Toys R Us. Its only a seasonal job, my only job because times are so tough. Last Monday night while at work, there was a major blackout that took out most of Cape Cod. After we secured the store, I was told we could leave if we wanted and get paid for our shift. Last night when I left work I was told there was a "miscommucation" and we would not be getting paid for those hours. I really don't like getting lied to. I did not make a scene, I'm just telling everyone I know how Toys R Us treats its workers and they lie and decive people and have no honor, avoid them at all costs.

Whoop-ti-doo.

Once I had to work through my coffee break. I want a boycott!

Unfortunately if we avoided all the places that did that sort of thing, there wouldn't be much of anywhere left to shop, or well do anything much else for that matter.

Don't worry, I've never even been in a toysRus.

I don't remember having seen anyone, also. :)

S'okay, we here at EN World do't use ToysRUs. After all, we've got MorRUs, which is much better. :)

Sounds like a simple case of miscommunication, to me. Seeking to bolster employee morale, a store manager promised to pay for hours off the clock, since they could not track the time worked. Then a regional manager points to company policy and corrects the store manager. End result; it appears that the store manager went back on their word. The store manager should have covered their bases; by saying they would attempt to get employees compensated for the hours they were unable to work during the blackout, but their superiors would have the final say.

Perhaps they should offer employees a crate of plush Elmo dolls, instead. ;)

Ahh, but does MorRUs offer free shipping, gauranteed in time for Christmas? :D

Also, is Toy'R'Us a directly controlled corporate vehicle, or a franchised organization? If it's directly controlled, then yeah -- you've got a legitimate gripe that MIGHT be transferrable to the rest of the stores in the company, but is mostly likely a screw-up on this particular manager's part. If it's a franchise (and I'll lay odds it is), then what one store does/says in its employee relations has no real direct bearing on the rest of the stores in the chain; policies are "standardized," but not necessarily the same, especially compensation policies, which are usually completely under the control of the owner of the store/business in the case of franchises, within the exception of minimum wage and other labor laws.

Also, they have Geoffrey the Giraffee... and he's so darn cute! Go effective marketing! :D
