Do Psions get Psicrystals for free?

I am afraid that you are incorrect. You cited the passage already however so I will just pick it out and move on.

Plus, in case it matters, custserv has said that you get one back. Not that anything they say can be trusted, but hey, some people care.

Done and done. If you ever do not have a psicrystal the feat allows you to gain one.

For what it counts ... my personal opinon (and I admit it is an opinion) is that if the DM is playing with the magic/psionic same option, then the psicrystal should be able to be recreated just as a new familiar can be received. If magic/psionics are different, then that is where I can see the best case for a DM saying that the psicrystal cannot be regained when lost.

But the rules are vague on the issue - so I don't think it is a matter of right or wrong. It is a matter of the DM's opinion that matters.

Do familiars then get all the additional benefits, that are only listed with psicrystals, too? ;)

You would probably have to use it twice, in order to actually exchange the feat (I don't think you can swap a feat for itself there).

And if you lose a feat, you obviously also lose the benefit. Same with that feat that gives you extra skill points, you would have to remove those.

Actually, you could probably use Psychic Reformation only once and achieve the desired result. For example, say you took as your 5th and 6th level feats:

5 Psicrystal Affinity
6 Empower Power

You could probably switch these to regain the Psicrystal:

5 Empower Power
6 Psicrystal Affinity

Where did you get that part from?

It can be interpreted either way.

The feat states:

This feat allows you to gain a psicrystal.

The feat does not state: "This feat allows you to gain a psicrystal when you gain the feat." nor does the feat state: ""This feat allows you to gain a psicrystal once and only once."

So, for example, you could gain the psicrystal a month after you take the feat.

You could also ask the questions:

1) Does he have a psicrystal? No
2) Does the feat allow him to gain one? Yes

Hence, he can gain one.

KarinsDad (and Scion) have the right of it. The feat uses the phrase "allows you to gain". That verbage doesn't restrict the number of times the feat may be used.

In fact, the SRD text doesn't restrict a psion from having more than one psicrystal!

(Read the text carefully!)

What about my other question? I take Psycrystal Affinity and gain my Psycrystal. Then I use Psychic Reformation to exchange Psycrystal Affinity with Empower Power. Do I suddenly lose [the benefits of] my Psycrystal?
