"Do those games have torture?" and other experiences

Sebastian Lewis

First Post
Hey everyone. I'm working on (and rather proud of) my first blog, which is so far a series of entires detailing my history with gaming (which goes back to 1979). There's some interesting stories (IMHO, of course ;) ) and possibly some good nostalgia for some of you old timers. I'd appreciate some feedback, as this is my first blog and whatnot.

So check it out, if you don't mind...and give feedback! :)

...and that would be spam, as the link redirects to "dna-paterniti-testing.net." ;)

Corrected link, with "blogspot" instead of "blogsplot":

;)

AAAIIIIEEEE!!! What a stupid goof (me, not you, haiiro  ). Thanks so much for catching that, dude. I corrected the typo in the message and my .sig.

Okay, now that all of your folks' paternity testing needs have been accounted for, check out my blog! ;)

The first thing I saw when I clicked your link was an offensive and juvenile headline with profanity. If that's what you want to blog about, go for it. Just understand that I immediately clicked away. You may have good content, but the crude headline in large font made certain that I never looked at the rest of the site.

Of course, I may not be your target audience.

I already had the post reported a few hours ago. That seems not to be necessary anymore now. However, the new link doesn't really want me to read it, either. That isn't quite my style ;).

Uh...you aren't. :)

Go to movies much?

You know, I had to skim the entire blog a few times before I realized what you were referring to. I kept thinking, "Where's the offensive and juvenile headline? Is it this one? This one? Maybe this one?" Then I figured you were probably thinking of his Star Trek headline with the "S" word (ooooh).

Now I don't want to jump to conclusions. Maybe you were joking about being offended, I don't know. But dude, if you really ARE offended by the "S" word, then...I'm just...speechless. ... *snip* -Darkness

Anyway, sorry, not trying to be negative or critical. I'm just...shocked. A person calling the "S" word "juvenille" and "offensive" ... *snip* ... I didn't know there were gamers like that too.

But hey, that's okay...diversity is wonderful, and all that. Sorry, I was just taken aback.

Anyway, Sebastian, great blog. Some nice nostalgia there. I had forgotten about that hardcover Traveller book. I remember my mom bought it for me and I flipped through it once then shelved it, never to read it again because it was too complicated for my 12-year-old brain. My mom eventually sold it at a garage sale. :(

After looking back at my own post, maybe I deserved it a bit. That said, I agree - this thread needs to focus on the blog, not the posters.

My point was simply that my first impression of the site was not positive...to me. I look for intelligent, well-reasoned, and most of all, respectful discourse. There's a lot of dreck on the internet, so much that the good stuff is often drowned out. Sebastian's site may have the very things I'm looking for, but because of that first impression, I never looked deeper. Whether or not the average person would feel as I did isn't relevant - whether or not the people he is speaking to would is relevant. And only Sebastian can answer that.

Regardless, I do wish him the best of luck with his efforts.

It's not an ad hominem. An ad hominem is an argument which tries to invalidate a point by denigrating the person who made the point. What you're talking about is just an insult.
