if you dont allow third party material, you can chime in as well, but i really wanted to see how its worked out for those of you who decided to allow things from places like EN5sider, DMGuild, Unearthed Arcana, etc.
So far in 5e my players have only used core character material, so I can't speak on how non-core material plays out.
In this edition, while I prefer core material, I am open to any official material. I am also in favor of giving a shot to UA material, under the agreement that if it doesn't work well, the player will have to give it up: this is because the nature of UA material is to be out for playtesting, so if a player wants to playtest something in my games, I am ok with that... but it has to be clear that playtesting does not grant the right to keep using something that doesn't pass the test!
As for 3rd party material, even tho I bought a bunch of it in the 3e days, for 5e I am mostly against it. Don't know why feeling about it has changed, but I generally doubt its integrity, and I suspect that at least some publishers are still just trying to compete in the market by providing character 'boosts' to a player that pays the ticket. I do not want to run a game where players with more money get to play better characters. If they are interested in more options, I'd rather allow them to design and play homebrew material, even if it's more likely to be broken, because at least homebrew material is always under the agreement of being possibly taken away if it doesn't work, so there is no possible hard feeling coming from "but I paid for it!".
