Never bought or used them. We always just used our imagination and DMs judgment on positioning.

We did that for year...er, well...decades. :) Nowadays, however, our group finds the combination of Dungeon Tiles and miniatures helps everyone keep a better grip on the situation. We still don't use 'em for everything, but it just helps some of 'em to visualize a combat environment.

None of the poll result really fit.

I bought about 6-8 boosters two years ago to get a base amount fo characters, and then this summer I picked up about 40 singles at a shop ot expand my choices. I only use them for battles in my ftf group, though my kids did tkae a few to play with.

I buy them for RPGing primarily, but also do some DDM when I get a chance. My spares go to trade for multiples of your normal monsters - orcs, kobolds, carrion crawlers, etc

no i do not use minis in game and the whole random booster thing is just not for me. if i want to play a table top war game i like to know what units im buying b4 i get em home.

While I am not a rabid fan, and can stop anytime I want, I own all of the D&D figs, but I don't inhale play the minis game, just use them for the rpg...

OK

Hello, my name is thalmin, and I collect D&D figs.

Nope. My group buys minis for PCs, usually Reaper. For NPCs I use those glass beads that are flat on one side.

I was interested in them at one time but (A) packs are random and (B) stirges and gricks were uncommons at the time and way too expensive to get six or so of each.

Bought lots of them over the years but my buying days for DDM are over. I just have too damned many and can field about any monster or NPC you care to think of. I use both the DDM and Dungeon Tiles almost exclusively in my games with the odd Reaper mini thrown in (but rarely painted *sigh*)

I buy hundreds of DDM and other plastic minis off ebay. I have a smaller collection of metal figs, but I have not been painting enough of recent.

I've only bought a few singles to use in Convention miniatures game (not D&D miniatures rules). I paint my own for my home game, but folks are not always careful with minis at Conventions and they are really ideal for that.
Lucky you, I have folks in my gaming group who picked up painted metal figs by the handfull.

I buy them frequently, mainly for use with my RPGs*. However, I actually like minis wargames (OGRE/GEV, Confrontation and others) and found playing Chainmail to be quite enjoyable.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to convince my game group to try out DDM.

*the same goes for other games, like the Heroclix & Star Wars, and MechWarrior minis I buy for superhero/sci-fi rpg play.
