So I got the Tome of Horrors the other night and the old-school black and white art got me to thinking- how many people color in their gaming books? As a kid I colored parts of my first edition stuff... What about you?

Never. I try to keep my books in as best condition as I can. I don't write, color, or mark them in anyway. I don't even use them as writing surfaces.

Which reminded me - a bard PC wrote his stats in on a sheet of paper in my PHB, apparently a little hard since I could read out the burrows he made into the paper.

Personally I am like Crothian, except for two things - I do write on it, just softly ;D and the PHB, DMG and MM have been errated with an ink pen so I know what's been updated. Haven't done that yet with any other book though and don't think I will either (Sword and Fist? Ugh)

Never!!!

I still have all of my first print british edition (where they first came out) books from 1e. MM, DMG, PHB, FF, MMII, UA, and god knows how many more. Got them all in mint condition and I plan on keeping em that way. Those things are worth money!!!! I avoid writing in my 2e and 3e books but don't exactly treat them with special care or anything. =op

I highly value my books. I had to replace all of them(I'm still not finished) because they were stolen, and I don't ever want to have to do it again, so I take VERY good care of them.

EDIT: Especially because I don't want to pay another $10 more for replacements.

I don't have any illusions about how much my gaming books will be worth in the future, nor do I have any illusions about the chances of me ever selling them.

Still, I'd have to be pretty damned bored to start colouring the pictures. I've done so a few times in the past, most notably my copy of HõL, and I am pretty pleased with the result if I may say so myself. :)

Well I was pretty protective of my books. I wouldn't let anybody touch them with semi-wet fingers or bend the binding that much, but it came to me that I was slowly working myself into psychosis so I stopped doing it.

These days I bend the covers all the way to the back so I can sniff that wonderful, industrial strength glue. In fact I am gonn ago sniff some PHB right now.

Mmmm... Player's Handbook.... *drooling*

Absolutely! Back when I had the 1e MM I had great fun colouring in all the black and white pictures to bring them to life. I was, what, about 17 at the time?

I don't do it now because I've got lots more things to take up my time and you don't see so many black & white pictures any more ;)

I don't really color any of the pictures in my books but the adventures I run get quite marked up. I take tons of notes in the margins to help me keep track of what's happened, what I need to remember etc. It's extremely helpful. Generally I try not to mark up any of the other books with the exception being that I write my name on the inside in permanent ink. Helps keep track when everyone has a players handbook etc.
