Absolutely. Beauty of it is, it's the one part of the hobby that I can enjoy to completion without needing to assemble a group of players. If the boys can't make it that week, I can paint instead.

Yep - D&D Minis. I started by trying to get a few specific minis for the RPG, and was annoyed by the random aspect. Since I've started playing the skirmish game, the randomness bothers me much less.

Random + RPG = Bloody Frustrating
Random + Skirmish = Not A Problem
Random + Skirmish that are also good for RPG = Kind Of Nice

Hi,

Yes, definitely. I've been painting metal minis since I've been gaming and enjoy running encounters where I actually have the right mini for the monster or NPC. I supplement my painted minis with plastic D&D minis, Fiery Dragon counters and handmade counters (using images from the Wizards site).

Cheers

I use minis and a battlemap on occasion, and I like painting them on occasion, too. I don't view it as part of my hobby, though. The two activities are so thoroughly separate, and I can so easily ditch the minis and not feel notable impact on my RPG, that I can't see the one as part of the other. They're separate activities, where I can use one to provide some minor support to the other.

It's so hard to get the group to all be in town the same weekend, that for me the mini painting is a way to be gaming when we're not gaming.

So yeah, it's right up there. :) Plus, it's fun! I've just learned how to use putty and flocking, and my minis are getting cooler all the time.
