Do you game in Greyhawk?

I was wondering how many of you game in the 'generic' DND world of Greyhawk?

Is your version the 'standard' version (relatively few changes from established material) or is it a 'customized' version (changes that deviate greatly from established material)?

What do you like about Greyhawk?

No, I stick mainly to settings like Planescape and Dragonstar. I don't think I've played in a "standard medieval fantasy" setting for a few years now.

I might want to look into it.

I used to, for almost 20 years. Somewhere along the line, though, I just got tired of it, I'm not even sure why, although my tastes and that of the RPGA so strongly differing helped, and am now more interested in other settings. Even for generic/baseline D&D, I'm looking for something new -- as of the news today about the "Drow War" series having its own setting, I might well pick that up and see how well it works as a generic framework setting.

Though I mainly run games in my homebrew world, I am running a Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil play by post game. Greyhawk just fits it well...can't seem to figure out WHY though.

The campaign I was playing and am soon to restart is set in Greyhawk, but I have not revealed much of it to the players (well, we are on hiatus and will restart with some different players, so..), but I will make decisions about how faithful I am being to "canon" as we go.

The feel is DEFINITELY going to be old school though.

I had a long, loooong running Greyhawk campaign that eventually morphed into an awesome Planescape-Greyhawk hybrid. The setting evolved significantly over the years to the point where it was at least half my own world.

I've always preferred Greyhawk over similar settings like FR and DL. Like Ankh-Morpork Guard said, there's just... something about it that sets it apart.

However, that was before I got into seriously developing homebrew campaigns from which I've never really looked back...

Cheers!

I've run most of my games in that world. I still have, and use, the first boxed set. I also have most of the From the Ashes books and use those. And I have the Gazetteer that came out with 3E and use that as well. I like it because it's the world that to me is the standard for D&D. While I like some things about Forgotten Realms, it's a little too much for my tastes. I like the backdrop of the Suloise/Backlunish ancient wars, the corrupt Great Kingdom, the rise of the dreaded Empire of Iuz, the Wolf Nomads, the Ice Barbarians, the Scarlet Brotherhood, Vecna and his Spider Throne, etc. In short, it has just the right mix of cultures and fantasy concepts for my taste of fantasy gaming. It also has enough information through the published material and fan websites that I can have plenty of detailed information when I want it, yet there is still plenty left undefined for me to fill in as DM. Many of my favorite classic adventures are set there, such as Against the Giants, the Temple of Elemental Evil, etc. which I've DMed for players in the past. I'm running a game there now, currently through my slightly tweaked version of the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. I'm running another game through the Dungeon Adventure Path in another part of the continent.
