Not me, but one of my Players

One of the players in my group will never touch a DM's dice, and will not let the DM touch his dice. Further, he will not let any other player in the group use his dice if, at any time, they have opted to use the DM's dice. Although he brings the largest collection of dice to each session, they can be used only by himself and one other player. The rest of the group have used my dice (I'm the DM) at one time or another, thereby joining his "no touch" list.

Superstition is unlucky.

Not only do I not have any superstitions, they drive me crazy in other people. (Or at least in other people I've assumed to be intelligent.) Unfortunately for me, my two main hobbies are roleplaying and poker, both populated by people who tend toward superstition. (Actually, as far as poker goes, that's a good thing. Superstitious people make poor decisions, and people who make poor decisions end up giving me their money.)

None of this is to say that I don't believe in luck, BTW; I most emphatically do. But I recognize good and bad luck for what it is: something that can be observed after the fact, but never predicted.

-No one except me may touch my dice
-Keeping the D20 in your hand all the time in a fight makes it roll better
-Allways roll with the left hand for higher rolls, right hand for lower rolls
-Blow on your dice to make them roll higher
-Shake in thoroughly before letting the dice go
-The true critical rolls are done with both hands
-Keep the good dice together with the bad ones..luck will transfer and make the bad ones more happy
-Never change dice in the middle of a fight. It will never works out.

And now that I have written all this I feel like a true maniac

BTW, we have one player in our group that will destroy the best dice by just touching it. And he has done this repeatedly. No one will give him any dice, EVER. So he is really lost if he forgot his dice at home. Even his own dice, no matter which ones of those he has, new or old, roll horribly at the worst moments in the game. The only thing that seems to help is when everyone says "Roll LOW! LOW ,you hear?" if he has to roll really high and the other way around when he has to roll low everyone will say "HIGH! roll high!"

When I am I have a couple of rituals:

-I have my good dice that only I game with and the rest are my loaners.
-No one uses my good ones but me.
-It is possible to waste a crit when your playing with your dice in boredom. So dont roll unless you mean it.
-Always luckier if a female rolls for me or at least blows on them.

No, but I do try to choose my dice to fit the character. Recon dice for the ranger, Earth for the druid. I also pick new dice when I run a new PC, which isn't very often since I almost always DM. My dice choice isn't for luck, it just helps me get in the mood. Just like having the proper fig.

I joke around the table in a KODT kinda way about touching my dice, fame rubs, etc.., but no, not really. I do note if a particular die doesn't roll particularly randomly, and cull them out, however.

I like my dice to be very random. If I get one that comes up with a particular result really often, I chuck it. This is the biggest reason I haven't bought a set of the semi-precious stone dice. I'm afraid I'll get one that isn't consistently random. I don't have much trouble chucking an 80 cent piece of plastic, but I would have trouble chucking a hunk of tiger eye.

I wouldn't say its a superstition but I do have ritual dice stuff:

I just like to use a different die every gaming session (like I won't use the same d20 I used the session before).

And theres a set of d6s that I love to use. Not because they're particularlly lucky but because I just like the way the roll. (These dice are the exception the statement above.)

Oh yeah, I roll d4s very well, for some reason when I roll a d4 it comes up 4 close to 60% of the time.

I sometimes roll dice until a bad result comes, because afterwards dice will roll good. Well, of course they won't and I know it, but it's still funny. ;)

I go the other way. I will not roll my dice except when needed. When I do I may "waste" a 20.

I have my red d20 from my basic set 25 years ago that I do not allow anyone else to use.

I have certain d6s that I will always roll together when I need to roll multiple dice - they work well together.

Oh hohoho... The groups I've been involved with over the years have had MANY... :)

1) One former player used to get extrememely mad if you spoke while he rolled his dice. Yes, SPOKE - he figured the dice rolled more poorly, kind of like how no one is supposed to talk during a golf shot. Worst on his list of sins was if you called out NUMBERS while the dice were rolling. Apparently, the dice could "hear" you, or fate, karma, magick, what have you, would alter the probabilities of what was rolled.

2) One player always flourished his dice -- he would roll it in his hand, in a swirly motion, and let it roll off the tips of his fingers. GOOD or BAD, if it didn't roll out of his hand in this fashion, it didn't count.

3) One player developed a faux dice superstition -- he figured out that he seemed to roll better when he was cursing at the dice with a stream of four-letter words, and sometimes rolled better when he was shouting, "SATAN!!!!" in a gravelly voice as he rolled. Apparently, whether he was intimidating his dice, or calling on the Prince of Darkness, it worked. :D

Other than my penchant for 'pretty' dice, I don't have any rituals or superstitions regarding them. But a friend of mine had a humorous one: He would leave the dice with the desired high numbers facing up while the dice were at rest. Occasionally he would tap the dice against the counter, still with good side up. When asked why he did this, with a smile he said "I'm letting the heavy molecules settle at the bottom." Still makes me chuckle. :D
