When not busy as a player I put my dice with "1" face up. That way the dice are low 99% of the night to get an average result they need to roll 20's.

Seems to work...since I started doing this I went from rolling really badly to being an above average roller...last session 7 rounds of combat with a second level fighter with a great sword and I rolled 4 crits, got 2 cleaves! Killed a horse with one blow and its rider with the cleave.

Of course at about the time I started doing this I found a mysterious d20. Its red, it came to me, after spending two sessions trying to find its owner and feeling foolish for asking the same question so many times, while rolling high, I have decided it was a gift from the dice gods for reward of sticking it out, keeping on praying to them while I got dorked time and time again.

So many char's had died to the mantra:
"all I need is a two....a one ...duh"

Finally success, recognision from my peers and my acne is clearing up too. The other day a girl smiled at me, while I was sitting at burger king, slurping my large coke, contemplating the universe and thinking about my red dice...things are looking up.

I'm surprised that so many voted 'no'.

I certainly have lucky and not-so-lucky dice, and much prefer not to lend out my dice.

One set I picked out individually by pattern, have never been rolled except by me in a genuine game roll, and they have come through for me several times when it really counted.

edit: After reading a few other responses, I have to come down on the side of cold dice: no practice rolls, no stacking or spinning dice, in brief leave the die on the table until it's time to make a roll.

One guy I know would throw any dice that betrayed him...literally...out the window. :uhoh:

Any dice... that'd amount to a huge pile of dice in the backyard.

But that's exactly the kind of punishment I was talking about - but only if playing at home, and only if I own the backyard ;)

My friend swears his little d6s roll better than his big ones.

Funny, most people I know prefer bigger dice, as the smaller ones always roll bad (or so they say).

I play Warhammer and Warkammer 40K. My dice superstition comes into play only here. The game involces rolling fistsfuls of d6's. I've gotten into the habit of placing a terrain piece in the center of the board that has a 'pit' in it....a crater or a chemical vat.

If one of the dice comes up a 1 it goes into the pit. When I have exhausted my supply of dice, only then are the offending dice released from the pit.

I have all-blue ones for playing. All the non-blue ones are for DMing. I also bought a dice rolling octagonal tray in late 2003 after a series of bad rolls on an uneven surface. I've used it since.

Also, I keep the blue playing dice in a white, soft, leather shaman's bag from Wyoming. The multi-colored dice are kept in a blue, canvas bag from a sail-maker's shop in the Bahamas. Both were gifts from my parents. This arrangment isn't really a superstition, but I do ponder it at times.

I used to have lucky dice. Then they got stolen. Since then, I have terrible luck whenever I play. I fail lots of saves, blow Spot/Listen checks, miss a lot in combat, lose initiative, and only roll crits against undead, plants, elementals and constructs. This is pretty much independent of what dice I use. :(

Oddly enough, though, I survive a lot. I've got used to plan for the worst, and it's not like I can roll "-5" on a d20 after all. Most of my planning tends to rely on the good old principle of never being your enemy's primary target. ;)

Yes, as follows...

"Dice I Touch Suddenly will not roll wort :):):):)".

Though I don't think you can call it a "superstition" when it has been empirically proven over a 15-year period :)
I have witnessed this firsthand on numerous occasions. I'm not possessive about my dice except around TB because once he's touched a die, it's useless for all time. He's like one of those people who emits a magnetic field and destroys every watch they wear.

No superstitions. Dice are dice... little plastic thingies.

However I tend to roll several dice at the same time to cut time down, like during combat I'll roll d20 and damage dice together. Well, I'm kinda obsesive about stuff so it just doesn't feel right if the dice aren't color coded somehow.

If you already have a hot d20, never get more new d20ies to save more time when rolling multiple attacks. The old d20 will think you are breaking up and will punish you harsly by giving you multiple -1- at critical moments.
