Oh yeah,

Sometimes dice are just "spooky". I've seen people roll all six scores above 15 with the same 3 dice everyone else used to roll average scores.

Just this past session on Sunday my "initiative" d6 die was rolling sixes to beat the band. 3 in a row to start the combat. So we were testing it after about round five or so. With a dozen rolls between three different people it just wouldn't roll under 4. Spooky. I've been using the same die all year and have had horrible streaks in the past. What really scared me was when I rolled it to laugh at my failure for a skill check. Only then it rolled a 1. (the number needed to succeed)

I'll be bringing that die back in two weeks. Wrapped in plastic.

One guy I know would throw any dice that betrayed him...literally...out the window. :uhoh:

i once knew a guy who would use a wristrocket to expel bad dice.

but after he broke the window out of a neighbor's house, he had to find another way to get rid of the bad Karma.

I once saw a fellow gamer put a offending die (it had rolled poorly ;)) into a microwave for about a minute followed by breaking it in half with a axe. I guess it put the fear of god into his other dice as he had good rolls the rest of the night.

One player was having a new house built and there was some talk about puttng some dice in the four corners of the foundation to provide a good gaming enviroment in the house.

Other things we believe to have a bad effect on dice.

-If any dice falls to the carpet during one of our games, we say the die has recieved "Carpet Burn" and it believed to have a detrimental effect on the dice's rolling.

-Rolling on another player's character sheet.

-Hitting any miniatures during a roll is considered bad form! The GM usually imposes a -1 to the die roll if this happens.

It's not a hard rule I follow, but I tend to reach for certain colors of dice that reflect my mood at the time.

And I'm not sure if you'd call this a "superstition," but I like to palm my special d20 -- the one with two 20s and no 1 -- when it's a matter of life and death.

Do you have any superstions or rules about your dice, e.g. no one else touches them, lucky dice, etc?

Sort of. I know they are not true, but it is fun to pretend they are.

So my for fun superstitions are:
Some dice are better than others (only true if they are damaged, which mine are not).

It is bad luck for someone else to touch your dice.

It is bad luck to roll someone else's dice.

It is bad luck to roll a "virgin" die in combat. (Though this worked really well for me once- the first two rolls of a particular orange speckled die in an important combat were a 20 and 19, respectively. I called that set my "fire dice" and brought them out when circumstances warrented it. Unfortunately I lost them. :( )

If you keep your dice on the table set to the highest number when they are just sitting there, it increases their chances of rolling high.

If you yell at your dice and threaten that you won't use them anymore if they don't roll well, they will roll higher. (For fun I did this once when I was rolling up a character and I ended up with great scores. The other players at the table asked the DM if they could re-roll while yelling at their dice, too. :) He was nice, and let them, but it didn't work so well for them).

Yes, not that I believe they're in any way routed in logic. I have my DM dice and my player dice.

For years I was always the DM because no one in my group runs games, but now through folks I've met here at EN World, I get to play in other games with some regularity. When this first started happening, I used my DM dice (though I didn't call them that at the time) while playing, and was constantly having the worst rolls. Now I keep those aside for when I'm running games and rolling against the players, and use different dice when I'm on the player's side of the screen.

I'm not sure if it is a a superstition or habit, but I always place the highest value of the dice face up. Maybe I think I'm priming them?

My players though, that is another story.

1. One player, if the d20 "rolls cold" will start rolling it with other d20s and call out the dice that counts as a technique he calls "peer preasure"

2. Two of the players consider it bad luck to move to a different possition at the table, or out of their "zone". The funny part is that they sit on the same side, so if the one guy on the other side doesn't show, then they just stay there instead of spreading out. It looks like a KotDT strip to anyone walking in. My wife just stops, looks at them, shakes her head and wonders off

In our group there is the unspoken "Do not touch the other's player's dice" in effect. Nothing conscious, discussed or questioned. The fact is your fellow's dice go untouched.

Unless, of course, you are the DM's wife. In which case, "Oops, hon', I forgot mine" are the magic words that permit you to do so. And frankly, that's cool. She seems, oddly enough, to roll better with the hubbies dice.

Wait second there, starts thinking hard, right brain kicking in...
