Do YOU have "personal" dice?

Salad Shooter

I was just wondering if anyone else was like me, and had a set of dice that no one else was allowed to touch, and had another specifically for others to use if they need? I've noticed a few others do it, I was just wondering if anyone else was as anal as me about it (Touch my dice, yer liable to lose an arm). So? What about YOUR dice?

I have one "evil" d20 that I use to roll everything bad for the PCs. That's about it. All my other dice are in a bowl, and I lend them out regularly when PCs are making large-die rolls (crit on a flaming burst heavy pick, fireball, etc.).

No one uses my dice except me. I have a separate container for semi-abandoned dice that others can borrow. This isn't an uncommon practice in my area, as I know two other that are just as zealous about their SPECIAL dice as I am.

I've a big ol' bag o' dice that I usually bring to games, makes sure that everyone has something to roll. I usually pick through and pick out the same dice every week out of habit, but I'm not particularly attached to any of them.

Typical exchange between my players and I.

Me: "Need some dice?"
Player: "Yeah"
Me: "Here take these."
Player: "No, that one hates me!"
Me: "They're dice, they're random."
Player: (rolls die) "See it hates me!!!"
Me: "AAARG, THEY'RE RANDOM!"
Player: (rolls a bunch until s/he finds one that rolls high repeatedly) "I'll take these."

Later that night.....
Player: (rolls badly) "Ack, These dice hate me!"
Me: *twitch*

No one else uses my precioussss!

In our group, we all have at least two sets of dice, most of us more. If someone new joins, and they don't have their own dice, I go buy them a couple of sets.

I have more dice than all of the other gamers in our group combined -- although I don't bring all of them to a gaming session. And no one uses any of my dice.

Heh, yeah.

I've got a complete set of Chessex dice. I forget the brand name for the color, but they are mottled green and black with white numbers. And I mean complete. Ten of each die except for d10s. I have nine of those and a percentile.

They stay in a wooden bowl that has a detailed and personal history and no one touches them but me.

But then one of my players has her special "sneak attack" block of d6's that I have personally seen her make one of her friends stand in the corner for 5 minutes for rolling.

I too have a ton of dice. Two families actually. One family lives in an old US Army box for 5x7 cards. Anyone in the army during the eighties or ninties probably knows what I mean. The other set lives in a Crown Royal Bag. The ones in the bag are my personal dice. The box anyone can borrow. As an aside, I notice I use different dice from the bag when I DM and when I play. As a DM I keep about 6 D20 that are only for bad guys to roll, and a block of Chessex for mass damage spells.

Nope, that's one quirk of the hobby I never understood or was infected by. I have a bag with about a dozen assorted sets inside, and dump them out at the game for anyone to use, after picking out a set to place behind my DM screen (and they aren't my "eeeeviiiiiil" set, either :) ).

I have a special set for when I DM. Just to freak the dice freaks. ;)

As the player, doesn't really matter. Dice are dice are dice. They all hate me anyway. :D
