Do You Have Too Many Books?

As long as the book serves its purpose, which is to provide potential source material, it's okay.

However, I am running out of storage space. I just dumped a ton of third-party 3e stuff, all my d20 Modern stuff, and my ST Aberrant stuff, and I barely cleared up any space. My main D&D shelf is about out of room, as is my campaign setting shelf.

I don't really own that many RPG books. I own probably fewer than 50 d20/3rd edition books.

:uhoh: Huh, and all my d20 stuff fits on one shelf, and I still have more than I ever use (and have even read). So whatever is more minimal than a minimalist, that would be what I am, I guess.

I do have a crapload of other stuff though, including waaaaaay too much 2E. I really need to look at giving that away if I can find a taker.

Really, I'm a minimalist. I prefer to run my game with as few books as I possibly can. KISS

I own probably as many 2nd edition books/boxed sets.

I have, I think 2 first edition books.

That's it. Most of them I'm not using. I'm seriously considering selling a lot of my Planescape stuff since I could use the money, and I'm deluding myself if I believe I'm ever going to run Planescape again.

I guess I'm a minimalist, too. Or I have a cramped apartment, so anything that crowds my bookshelves looks bigger than it really is.

Ah well.

I have roughly 100 actual DnD 3.0, 3.5 books, and somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 pdfs, RP oriented, mostly 3.5 but not all.

I don't have enough books yet.

Got a new DM in town who is trading his old RPG books at a site that gives him mucho credit towards new purchases, but I didn't note the name of the site. He is using it to upgrade his collection to 3.5.

The funny thing is the pack rat in me doesn't want to get rid of any of the books that I currently have, even if there is a high chance that I'll never even open them up again. I want to hold onto them just in case I need it one day!

I just can't understand why I want to keep getting more though! Obviously I'm not alone in this though. Does this mean that we're all nuts or does that make it "normal"? :D

In response to Olaf the Stout ... these are very good books that could launch a campaign or two. Take Psion up on his offer!

That said, if more books were sold as PDF I'd buy more books. This includes comics. I like the idea of comics I just don't want a closet full of magazines.

And by the way, at Origins 2005 I bought a somewhat random assortment of books on discount that is still feuling my imagination. There is no such thing as too many books.

(unless you ask my wife, but never mind that for now)

I know that comment was tongue-in-cheek Biggus Geekus but at the same time I wouldn't mind having a look at Midnight or Exalted. That is half my problem.

I have all these books with enough material to have at least 4 long running D&D campaigns without even looking at the Dungeon magazines that I own. I only get to run one fortnightly D&D game. I don't have enough time to game any more frequently than that. At this rate I have enough published adventures to run games for many years without needing to buy another book. Yet at the same time I keep buying more. It's like I'm searching for some mystical perfect game experience and there may be something in the latest new release that helps me to achieve that.

Heck, I've barely played at all in the last few years yet I continued to buy books in that period anyway!

Some of my physical book collection could use culling though. Anyone need some 1e Midnight or Exalted books?

Exalted, yes. :D

I don't have too many books though I have been successfully actively trading and giving books away for almost 4 straight year now. So, while I have turned my spare bedroom into a gaming library it still needs more books. And more book cases, five just is not enough.

Do any of you out there feel like that you have too many books?
Hazard of the hobby, and a welcome one at that. I have two shelves of books---the shelf I use, which sits on my desk, and the shelf I don't, which sits on the hutch in another room.

I think you already have these, considering I got these when judging...
