If you figure mid-level as 7-13 or so, well, most of the games I've played in ended at the top end of that range, and my highest-level 3.x player character I think was 14th level when the campaign ended. My current tabletop PC's 500 XP from level 10; I'd like to see him to 11 at least, if only to finish a PrC for the first time (he'd be Wiz [Evo] 5/Cleric [Silver Flame] 1/Silver Pyromancer 5 at that point).

I have played and GM high level, but that's usually when we have started a new campaign at high level, or taken PCs from past games and started a new campaign with them, often a mix of them from different past campaigns. 20 years of playing with the same guys will generate a lot of these guys.

But when starting a new campaign from scratch (1st or 2nd level) we seem to end before getting past mid-levels (10th-12th). Now, we may revisit some of these characters 1-2 years later, but then its not really the same campaign.

Average party level for my 3.x games at completion:

3.0 Campaigns:

1. 9th
2. 8th
3. 3rd
4. 6th

3.5 Campaigns:

1. 12th
2. 3rd

Iron Heroes
(current, @ 2nd)

So, I'd have to say, no. I do plan on running an Adventure Path next campaign, however...

since 3rded most of my campains end in the 9-12th level range. We played city of the spider queen under a different DM and we started at 12th. ended 16-17th

The current game is the exception, started at 4th played to 12th and took a break for three years as the group changed. The break was also planned to last 3 years of game time. Recently the group returned to the orginal 5 members and we picked up the old characters at 13th - leveling is slower, with the group reaching 16th after 10-12 sessions. Will we make epic? no. 20th? possible. First ever use of 9th level spells?    yeah!

No. Most Of My RPGing Is Done Using Games Without Distinct Levels, And In Which The Progress Of Character Power From Invertebrate To Superhuman Is Much Less Marked Than In D&D.

Most Of Our Long-Term Games Are Done With The Intent (At Least) Of Getting To 20th Level If Not Higher. The Last One I DMed Got To 17th. The One I'm Playing In Now Is At 5th, But The Previous One Got To 21st.

Been DMing A Bunch Of One-Shots Lately, Though.

How Unfortunate For You, Hong.

OTOH, I Guess It Means That You Can Up Your TPK Count. :)

Or Have You Been Nice To Your Players Recently?

Cheers!

I'm frankly surprised at the poll results. With nearly 60% of people saying they never get past mid level no wonder we haven't seen a new Epic Level HB! I figured mid level was 10th, 4-7th is barely out of beginner levels, so nearly everyone of my games has gone beyond this (some very far beyond). I also find it strange that anything over mid level would be termed 'munchkiny' With some careful planning characters need not be walking magical item stores at higer levels.
