This came up in another thread, and I'm curious to know, how many people regularly play D&D with more than one character per player?

I'm also interested in your reasons why. If you do, is it because your group is too small? Or do you just have too many character concepts to try? If you don't, why not?

I think the "Leadership" caveat is going to muddle the issue a bit. Is someone with a familiar, an animal companion, or a feat playing two characters, or are they playing one character and the "assistant"?

In D&D, I play one character at a time. *I'm* the hero, buddy. ;)

In FFZ, I play one to three characters in one campaign, but never more than one at any given time. This is more due to FFZ's "ensemble" nature and character-driven campaign design, where large groups of characters are not rare.

We don't currently, but I have done so in the (distant 1E) past. I wouldn't mind doing it again, either as a player or allowing it as a DM.

One at a time here, for the most part.

When playing through the Shackled City, my players ran two characters each for most of the campaign, but that was because there were only three players and the campaign was very tough. I might have considered Gestalts instead, but we actually started with more players and then lost some, so that wasn't really an option.

I'm essentially a character slut. I could play a different character every night. Playing the same character over and over and over and over is like always being the shoe in Monopoly.

Multiple characters can be good, but it is obviously a style of play that is not for everyone. I have played in games with multiple characters on occassion and have had mixed experiences.

Well, that's a bit different issue. Even if you play a different character every night, how many characters do you play per night, at the same time?

We would occasionally play 2 PCs per player for one shots, because there are only 3 people in the group, but since we discovered gestalt years ago, that become unnecessary.
