Do you remember your first RPG purchase?

Though I had played for a couple of years I was very poor and couldn't afford to buy any RPG stuff. ( I did create some of my own games and even made some cardboard d8's!)
Then in 1982 I had some birthday money and went to the local gamestore to buy something.
I purchased Starstone by Northern Sages. Can't remember why. Luckily it was great and has become a classic and I now have multiple copies and have run it many times under several systems.

How about you?
It was 1983 and I was 13. I went to the local game store The Last Grenadier in Burbank, CA and bought the 1e MM, PHB and DMG.

We started playing with the red box / 1e so things with 2 lines of play were strange and not something I knew about. We had some basic stuff and some 1e stuff and made up stuff. I recall actually buying some of the FR stuff with the grey box and the module; Under Illifarn being the most memorable. I also remember having giant plastic figures of skeletons and such that GI Joe would need to fight.

1978 I bought my first adventure, Steading of the Hill Giant Chief, and went on to buy the whole G and D series in due course. Also bought the Blackmoor setting by JG and ran a campaign based in Vestfold.
By that time, weekend jobs meant I didn’t need to compromise and could still get rugby boots as well!

This is such a great question, because I don't remember.

I know that I started playing when I went to a friend's house, and his older brother was playing some game, and I just had to get involved. It was OD&D, and I ended up pestering them until they agreed to let me play (and, of course, I played the cleric ...)

I think my first purchase was Holmes, with B1. But there's a lot of spiderwebs (and some spiders) in there.

First purchase: a set of purple poly dice, a human male fighter mini, an elven male fighter mini, an the AD&D PHB & MM.

Edit: it was 1977 or 78.
