D&D (2024) Do you think they will add more races to PHB2024 to make up for dropping other stuff?

If we start on that road, why stop there? All we need is an Adventurer race, with others under it as just background feats.
When the question is “where does it end?” the answer is always somewhere. It makes sense to facilitate mixed-species combinations beyond half-elf and half-orc, and providing full species writeups for every possible combination would be beyond the scope of the PHB. Simply saying you can pick the species traits of either patent and mix descriptive elements of both is a reasonable abstraction. Having only one set of species stats and leaving all customization to description is not a reasonable abstraction.

Does it? I would leave that as setting specific. I dont see any reason at all why we need Half-Dwarf/Half-Dragon, that only gets traits from one or the other.

If a setting has need of it, let them provide the option, like Eberron. I had a feeling they would drop the half-elf/orc, but making a grab bag species set ala custom race from tasha's is just not it for me at all.

You'd think they'd prefer to not re-buy their books if they're aren't substantial changes to them. I'll never understand consumers.
What? Saving 6 dollars a year for the 10 years between the two PHB is such a hardship that you can't understand why someone might bother?

For some of us... dropping another $60 to replace our original PHB with a new version is not that much of an issue, and ANY changes and fixes are more than enough to make the investment worthwhile. Heck, some players out there have bought the SAME Player's Handbook multiple times in hardcover, D&D Beyond, Roll20, Fantasy Gounds, and so forth and have done so happily.

It’s as setting-specific as any species.
I dont see any reason at all why we need Half-Dwarf/Half-Dragon, that only gets traits from one or the other.
I mean, the alternatives would be excluding hybrid species entirely, or privileging some hybrid species over others. Why should human/elf and human/orc hybrids the only ones that get full species treatment?
If a setting has need of it, let them provide the option, like Eberron.
It doesn’t have to be one or the other. The PHB can provide the simple, general option, and if specific settings have need of full species treatments for specific hybrids, they can provide them in the relevant books.

. In addition, WOTC brass have consistently mentioned aspects of in-game and premium transactions as part of their financial goals [for D&D].
No, they have not. A whole lot of click bait stuff and anti-WOTC people have tried to spin some comments made as if that's what they're saying.

WOTC have not said "in game" transactions to be able to play the game about D&D.

First They've committed to selling everything as physical books still in addition to digital so any digital strategy they have isn't an over-arching issue. Anything on the VTT or DNDBeyond is in addition to physical books, and the digital isn't a requirement to play just like it's never been a requirement to play. And they stuffed so much into the Creative Commons others could publish it as books too, particularly since 5.5e really is looking quite backwards compatible at this point.

Second, the existing DNDBeyond micro transactions everyone already likes, which are things like "You can buy just the new subclass from this setting book for a lower price than buying the entire book at the higher price."

Third, the new digital transactions are likely things like paying for premium digital figures and dice and terrain and such if they're using the VTT, but again the VTT won't be needed to play the game either, and they dumped so much into the Creative Commons license that other VTTs will be able to host D&D too without such transactions.

Forth, they've always had "premium" transactions, like boxed sets and alternative covers, and people are happy with those as well and those have never interfered with playing the game. I expect more of those, and a lot more branded products too. They're looking to sell more D&D stuff that people actually want to buy, and not stuff you're "forced" to buy just to play the game.

If someone is spinning stuff about WOTC to claim they're going to stuff the game full of required micro transactions and premium transactions or else you won't be able to play the game, they're likely fibbing and you should seek out the full quote in context to figure it out for yourself rather than depending on the spin of that person making a lot of noise about that claim.
