For standard D&D campaigns, yes, more or less, although I might slow things down a tad. For non-D&D or low-magic campaigns, definitely not. I don't really use XP at all for those types of campaigns.

I tend to wing XP. Since I'm almost exclusively a PBP DM and a tabletop player, I'd eliminate XP entirely if getting rid of XP costs (for spells, powers, and item creation) wasn't so much hassle.

I've come to the exact same conclusion for the exact same reason.

Nope, I just wing it.

I'll probably be adopting an Action Point XP mechanic similar to what PC mentioned for my next game.

There is more to gaming then solving problems. I reward the fun. :D

Ah, gotcha now! :D I reward good role-playing, problem solving, obstacle diversion, and a whole host of stuff by using the DMG XP rules and advice provided. I actually don't reward "fun", because fun is its own reward at our game table.

I figure up xp per CR and then divide it in half. I'll even tweak that number depending on bonus xp for roleplaying or if I felt the challenge was harder or easier than the CR called for.

You can never encourage fun too much in my opinion. :D
