Okay... wondering at the high price of the Psionics Handbook.

Personally, I believe it is (at least in part) due to the perception on Wizards' part that it would be a low-seller due to people not wanting to use psionics in their game, even one as good as the 3E version.

I have the PsiHB, having bought it at a discount, and think it's really cool - but don't have the urge to run Psionics in my game.

What about you? Do you use psionics or not, what are your reasons, and was the demand there for the handbook to be costed lower, or are my rationalisations wrong? ;)

Cheers!

The last Campaign that I ran, I allowed a Psychic Warrior in the group. It was like having another spell-casting character in the group. It really didn't change much. I see the new version of psionics almost mimicking the Sorceror, only the powers are Psi related, not charisma related. It seamlessly fit into the campaign and for awhile, the other players (meaning their characters) were really unaware that the character in question was a Psion. They thought that they had a friend who was a fighter/sorceror type. It was pretty cool.

We use psionics in my campaign - so far it's been cleanly balanced with magic.

The campaign is a Spelljammer campaign and the characters are only just discovering the existence of space travel, so psionics has been used to make off-worlders more exotic seeming. None of the planetary natives is psionic.

My character (I co-DM) is an off-world PsiWarrior mercenary. He's about to become an illithid hunter so we'll see how that works out. If you're interested in the way it plays out, you can check my story hour (the link's in my sig).

Playing a PsyWar

the campaign I'm a PC in right now is using psionics, but my character is the only occurence so far.

I like the system, but if I ever use it in one of my campaigns (I DM as well) I am going to alter it to allow more flexibility. I'm going to do the same for a Sorcerer. Either more total powers/spells or more points/spells per day. That or just add feats to increase them. Probably go with the feats.

In one mission I DM'ed the players ran into a PsyWar two weapon fighting with pre-errata Keen Bladed Gauntlets with Body and Mind Feeder properties. Oddly enough the players can't seem to find weapons like this.

I never liked psionics when Gary Gygax added them to AD&D. There's nothing wrong with them at all - just not in my fantasy world. For some reason I see them as a science fiction thing. No real reason, just my perception.

I've got a theory that despite the 19/11 split in favour of psionics, in truth people who don't use psionics don't look at this thread and so don't vote...

Cheers!
