Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Specials [[SPOILERS!!]]

I mean, it's just a silly joke, with no rational basis, because the word gravity in English comes from the Latin gravitas, meaning weight.

I can forgive Doctor who getting space science wrong a lot, so I guess I can forgive it getting linguistics wrong too.
Well it is intended as a show for kids, not English Scholars ;)

That’s one of the best parts of Doctor Who. Watching people overanalyze a children’s show and putting more thought into it than the writers ever do.

Cannot wait to see Ncuti Gatwa on Saturday. I hope he has a bigger part than just regenerating at the end.

There are some really wild rumors/leak floating around about the episode on Saturday. I’m not sure, but if true, that will certainly be a first.
I heard about these too. There's one very specific and nerdy way they could go with this idea that would be really cool, I think. But otherwise if the leaks prove to be correct, I'm afraid Doctor Who will forevermore live under the shadow of one specific guy and I really dislike that idea.

I'm not sure what you mean. David Tennent?

I wouldn’t go that far. More like they’re breaking with tradition.

Despite being a fan for decades, I think showing the regeneration is a bit silly and tired at this point. It closes off actors returning to the role and force weird explanations that are almost wholly unnecessary. It’s a time travel kid’s show. The Doctor’s a time traveler. They can show up wherever and whenever. So what if the Doctor looks a bit older or a bit different from the last time we saw a given face? It’s not like continuity has ever mattered to Doctor Who.

Hm. I'm not sure if we all heard the same rumours. Here's what I heard (obviously big spoilers for the Giggle if they prove to be correct):

What I heard was that 14th will regenerate into two versions: Ncuti's 15th on the one hand, and Tennant continuing as 14th on the other. If that proves to be correct, it will mean that Tennant will never have given up the Doctor's role officially, with the possibility of a Tennant return being forever possible. I'd dislike it since it means Ncuti will always be doubted as a "real doctor", and it will mean that Modern Who will forever keep Tennant as a crutch, an incarnation to return in case ratings get too low again. Of course, these are all rumours, so we'll see how things will go.

One way they could do "Tennant splits off into his own incarnation" justice is, of course, if they declare that incarnation to be the Valeyard. Seeing Tennant's doctor turn evil would be quite interesting and would fulfil the "The Valeyard is an evil amalgamation of the doctor's past incarnations, somewhere between his 12th and final regeneration" from all the way back, and also wouldn't carry the same "DW is forever beholden to Tennant to keep ratings in check" crutch. But like I said, we'll see how things will go.

Yeah, same rumor. We just read the results differently.

I don't see how that makes the show going forward beholden to Tennant. It simply leaves the door open to his return without having to invent a new convoluted explanation for why he comes back next time...if there even is a next time. I'd prefer them to not show any regeneration scenes simply to explicitly leave the door open for any actor to return to the role at any time for any reason. Again, it's a time travel show and the Doctor is a time traveler. They can pop up anywhere and anytime. But the actors age and the writers always seem to want to explain that away. Not showing the regeneration would remove that need. But it also removes the actor and fans getting some sense of closure with one Doctor while being introduced to the new Doctor. And fans will be jerks about anything. If it's not this it would be something else. Worrying about the fans is a great way to kill creativity.

My theory:
I think we're more likely to see some splitting of timelines shenanigans, where we find out that we (the viewers) are following only one of the Doctor's timelines but other versions of the Doctor continue to adventure in other timelines. We had the 13th Doctor straddling universes in Tecteun's timeship, hinting at parallel universes. In the recent Tales from the Tardis episodes, we saw older versions of past Doctors, with the 7th Doctor muttering something about different timelines as an explanation. And in a recent Doctor Who Magazine, Russel T. Davies has claimed that The Giggle will reveal "a whole new way of looking at the history of Doctor Who" that could be quite controversial. So my money is that we get to see both a timeline where 14 regenerates into 15 and one in which he doesn't, with the implication being that there are also versions of previous Doctors who didn't regenerate when we thought they did and have gone on to grow old and have other adventures.
