Does anybody actually like Desmodu?

Am I the only one who is tired of the desmodu, bat people from the MM2, Deep Horizon, and now Savage Species?

It seems like WotC keeps trying to force the desmodu down our
throats like they're the next drow or something. I'm sorry, but drow are evil elves who love the corrupted, poisoned side of nature. They scream ancient evil, and hate a spider fetish. desmodu, on the other hand, ride bats and are fuzzy...

A typical drow society consists of slavery, violence, murder, intrigue, and multiple evil religions. A typical desmodu society consists of all the desmodu standing around and saying "I am Batman." "No, I am Batman." Over and over again....

Okay, so that's probably not true. But, they just don't seem at all scary to me at all, and if they're not scary, then they're useless.

LOL! I think I may just put this into my .sig file for future use & abuse. :D

My overall reaction to the Desmodu is "meh." They aren't anything spectacular or awe-inspiring. I doubt I would ever use them as a focus of a campaign.

I think it's clear just who is Batman around here.

As for the desmodu, they're fine. Not all that interesting, but nothing wrong with them. They're something new(ish) at least.

I wasn't happy they were in MM2. Pretty stupid creatures... and the they wasted space on their riding bats too.

i'm going to have to agree. when i first saw them in deep horizon i was disappointed at the direction the adventure path was taking. how dumb, i thought to myself. i'm glad they make no further appearences in the adventure path.

Mehs.

I think they're overplayed, but they're a good example of a high HD/ECL monster, so...

I don't think they're extremely important, but it could just be the doofis-looking illustration in the MM...or the idea that despite being bat-people they don't do the things you'd expect of bat-people (be sneaky and stealthy and have keen ears but be blind, etc.). Instead they make pseudo-technological innovations (a la gnomes). :p to that.

I like them! I'm actually going to have a whole settlement full of them IMC. One of my players is just dying to play one, as well. It sure beats the same old same old... :D
