I give the same xp to all players that shows up. I don't have a system but this is how i value different aspects
-Combat: 10%
-Role-playing 20%
-Creativity, above and beyond the norm 20%
-Noncombat challenges: traps, talking to Non-Player Characters, larger campaign storylines 50%
Out of game stuff is not awarded in itself, but it is a big + for the talking to Non-Player Characters, and larger campaign storylines. Notes can be the big diffrent when you need to keep track on what has been going on. I for one do not need alot of notes to remember, i can still recal most conversations between npc and pcs that took place over 2years ago. But no one in my groupe can without notes
