Does anyone here even play Darksun?

I used to own Mystra, Red Steel, Planescape and Dark Sun.

Dark Sun is the only setting I kept and the only setting I bought more suppliments for.

I had a short lived Dark Sun Dark Sun(2e) campaign in college but it died out because a number of the players dropped out/graduated. One of my current players was in that campaign and he & I have talked about getting a new Dark Sun campaign going some time but I'm not sure if it will ever happen.

Too many great games to play, not enough time!

At any rate, if someone produced a nice 3e print edition of the campaign, I would definately buy it, regardless of whether or not I was likely to actually play.

Athas was my favorite 2E setting too. I DM'ed a short campaign and a few small adventures and still love it. Even still have all the old materials (as well as many of the free modules and expansions when they were all up for free on the wizards site)

What do you think of the great 3e stuff over at the official site?

One of my fav 2nd ed supplements was "Dragon Kings." The descriptions of Sorcerer Kings and Avangions rocked! I really dug the artwork showing the gradual transformation into a full dragon or avangion.

And the book had spells with a REAL epic feel.

How could you beat spells with names like,

Raise Nation
Prolific Forestation
Wall of Ash

Seems too far removed from standard 3e. Should the forgotten tribe of orcs and goblins arrive in Tyr they would die quickly. The attributes are so much higher (effects skills) that they have a signifigant advantage. Any and all creatures brought in not from the site would be a CR too weak. In reverse, If I placed an Agony Beetle (gotta love em') in FR it would be too powerful.

The site is great, don't get me wrong. It takes a lot of work to piece this stuff together but I aim to keep it closer to the standard 3e stuff to make my job easier in the long run. At this point I am using standard 3e characters (1/2 Orcs=Muls) and the only "extra" I am giving is a racial feat that comes for free. Each race can either roll a d4 or chose a feat prescribed to their race. This is how I include the Mul's stamina, the Dwarf's Focus and the Elf's group running ability.
I am very much enjoying reading through the feat lists, especially for the templars.
As far as clerics go, choice your element and any 1 domain. For Templars, Evil domain and any 1 chosen domain. This keeps it true to Darksun but allows a lot of variety which I feel is important.
I have switching back and forth on Gladiators. I am currently using it as a Prestige class but since having writen the rules book for my 3e I have seen the Kalamar Gladiator and am currently experimenting with it as a class vs prestige class.

Keep it up folks....support the Darksun! and smile- Rajaat likes you.:D

I ran Darksun from the day it was released until early september of this year and I loved every minute of it.
Its a damn shame they ditched it, and ended the line with some crappy supplements.

How true! The Mind Lords idea was good but the city area they are in sucks. Makes me wish it was leveled when they protected the lizardmen from Keltis (Oronis aka....the current Avangion). On the other hand, I would have liked to have seen more done with the expanded edition. Kurn (and new Kurn) would have been nice and of course Elderrich would have been great. A truely insane and psychotic Dragon King. They have come up with more for the Deadlands on the 3e site. Heavily influenced by the Starship Troopers story with the "bugs". I really wanted to see more on the Silt Sea Islands and some of the ruins.

In my world, the Dealands have just been shattered by a metorite striking it. The undead are escapeing in masse now lead by several powerful Kairashargas (supered up liches to you non Dark Sunners). This story will lead into something I have in mind to introduce "lost" races. I am thinking there may be Deepspawn under the obsideon whom can (have been) burp out Gobins, Orcs and the rest. With the glass broken, they can escape now and run amok. I'll have to see what my players think of it.

I bought the first edition of the Dark Sun box set and I loved it for the politics and high-level power games. Politics has always seemed to be the core of any Dark Sun campaign to me. Assasinating nobles, rasing armies, working in the underground psionic or arcane movements, driving convoys, fighting tribal wars, trying to alter the environment, making politics and spying in the courts of the sorcerer kings.

It was high-power, high-politics, high-fantasy with a high lethality.

As to being overpowered in comparison to other settings. Well, it's true that the Athasian races were much more powerful than other campaign setting races, but then the Athasian races had seldom any weapons or armor that were any good, magic using was prohibited and generally characters started out with several powerful enemies - and would only gain those as they played. Seldom were there any allies or safe havens.
