Does anyone use Dex for attack modifier rather than Strength?

I'll just reinforce the argument for:

1) beware of Dex Characters taking power attack.
2) Strength isn't just hitting it is also penetration of (natural)armour

I use a house rule for dexterity-based attacks. I assigned each weapon either to strength or dexterity for attack purposes. A character that uses a weapon that is listed for dexterity uses his dexterity to determine his attack bonus but he does not receive any bonus to damage from strength. I then made a feat that will allow a dexterity-based weapon applicable to receive strength bonus for damage.

This sounds like something I applied to my games. I let my players add the dex bonus to weapons which does'nt require as much strength to wield. Examples are rapiers, smaller blades and the whip. Since these weapons don't do as much damage as the heavier weapons, it all balances out.

IMC any weapon weighing 5lbs or less can be used with Dex instead of Str to hit. This works out very well, but then I don't throw very many monsters at my players at all and I do use armor as DR rather than AC. They usually fight humanoids with character levels.

I am thinking of having Dex be the attribute used for an attack bonus while strength still determines damage bonus.
The new Traveller T20 works like this. That surprised me, I must admit. Their take on armor is interesting as well. And character creation still looks more fun than playing. :D

The only change I would do is what a lot of people suggested, allow dex instead of strength for a small amount of weapons, maybe like the dagger and the whip. For the others, allow weapon finese as normal.

Watch Braveheart, and tell me that those greatswords are hitting because of dex and not str:)

That is also another thing I am thinking about doing, giving DR to all the armor types.

Check out the new Arsenal book, they've done a darn fine job of that adaptation for you.
