Does Awesome Blow do damage?

Awesome blow mentions a DC equal to the damage you deal, but never actually says it does damage. So is it just a knock back, or a knock back with a bit of pain?

It's a normal melee attack at a -4 penalty... and if it hits, it has the knockback effect in addition to the normal damage for the melee attack.

Also, If the DM uses the rules interpretation that falling through threatened areas and other involuntary changes to position do draw AoOs, the victim is extra boned. The Character knocked flying will suffer an AoO from all who threaten it, including the critter who just delivered the awesome blow.

Awesome Blow [General, Fighter]
Prerequisites Str 25, Power Attack, Improved Bull Rush, size Large or larger.

Benefit: As a standard action, the creature may choose to subtract 4 from its melee attack roll and deliver an awesome blow. If the creature hits a corporeal opponent smaller than itself with an awesome blow, its opponent must succeed on a Reflex save (DC = damage dealt) or be knocked flying 10 feet in a direction of the attacking creature’s choice and fall prone. The attacking creature can only push the opponent in a straight line, and the opponent can’t move closer to the attacking creature than the square it started in. If an obstacle prevents the completion of the opponent’s move, the opponent and the obstacle each take 1d6 points of damage, and the opponent stops in the space adjacent to the obstacle.

Hmm, is there anything in the RAW that contradicts that view, either explicitly or by implication? I can't recall seeing anything, but I'd love a solid answer on that one!

C'mon, give the PC a break! The awesome blow is good enough as it is. Adding AoO's on top of that is just a cheesy rules technicality.

AoO mechanics do not accurately reflect reality. If they did, how is it that an unconscious creature lying next to you is less of a target of opportunity than the armored, combat-trained, aware and moving person standing in front of you who's momentarily bending down to retrieve a sword from the ground?

AoOs from involuntary movement opens a very large can of worms when you introduce dynamic battlefields. I know I'd rather have battlefields with moving parts than a boring old piece of ground with furniture on it.
