Does D&D and alcohal mix?

The last time the group drank at a game, they were thoroughly defeated by opponents 4-5 levels lower than they were -- and they lost a party member, and had appalling tactics. We separate the wine and the dice at this point. :)

Alcohol and gaming can mix. Excessive alcohol, though, doesn't mix with almost anything else. Show some self-control and everything'll be OK.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Sometimes drink, sometimes "Shire pipeweed".

Never had a problem, but yea, I've noticed that player tactics get worse. Strangely, as a DM I'm fairly consistant.

No drinking during any of the games I DM or play in. Nobody's ever asked if I had any on-hand, nobody has every BTOB, and it's never even come up as a topic.

I'd prefer not to drink during games, and at the moment it's not an issue in any game I play.

I think my concentration would go downhill rapidly if I had a few beers.

A social beer or low-alcohol content drink during a game wouldn't impair things too much, but anything above that makes things go south quickly. We don't drink at our games, but that's because most of our players (maybe all, I've never been clubbing or sports-barring with any of them) do not drink. The ones who do respect the fact that we run our games "dry".

For another thing, we have an 11-year-old player occasionally (note to self: check birthday) so no alcohol keeps things a little cleaner for his sake, too.

A beverage or two during a game has never been a problem for us, though every now and then one of us will go a half step over the "good idea" line. Two weeks ago one of the guys brought a beeer he hadn't tried yet to the table and had at. It was a lighter beer (tasted a lot like a barleywine, actually), and they went down quickly, so it came as a bit of a surprise when this guy started off down a tangent involving the creation of tiny mithral plate mail armor and his pixie army. Since we were in the middle of a fight when he went on that off topic binge, we tuned him out long enough to get through the fight.

After the fight, he scanned over the label on the bottle, saw that it was about double the alcohol % as most beers in the US. He sheepishly told us, said "no wonder I'm talking about pixie armies," and we all had a good laugh at his expense.

But now I have this sneaking suspiscion we're going to end up having to deal with a well armed pixie army some time soon...

There was a time when we didn't have rules about drinking at the game table, but then a couple of the players started getting drunk and beligerent alittle too often, so we banned alcohal from the table.
