I've played all types of characters, depending on what was needed in the campaign. My favorites tend to be the Barbarian/Fighter types. I'm female.

I don't think your choices actually represent the question you ask. A player who loves combat and tactics, for instance, can easily get his or her fix playing a wizard or rogue. And a player who loves in-depth roleplaying can have a great time with a barbarian.

Basically, PC classes aren't "playing styles." While there might be some correlation, I'd be willing to bet it's minor ... somewhere in the vicinity of +0.1 or so.

Finally, your question is too broad, even for what it is. Most of the readers of these boards are well-rounded enough to occasionally play every character type. You'd get better results by asking, for instance, "What do you prefer to play?" Or even, "What are you playing now, or what did you play in your last active game?" The results are what they are because most people of each gender are selecting all three choices.

I am a guy and I've played the following (A)D&D characters:
- Male Halfling Thief (AD&D 2E)
- Female Lerini (custom race) Cleric (AD&D 2E)
- Male Human Fighter (AD&D 2E)
- Female Lerini (custom race) Wizard
- Another Male Halfling Thief (AD&D 2E)
- Female Human Psionic (AD&D 2E)
- Female Human Fighter (AD&D 2E)
- Female Human Ranger (AD&D 1E/2E hybrid game)
- Male Dwarf Cleric (AD&D 2E)
- Another Male Human Fighter (D&D 3E)

I'm male and I play characters in all three categories, sometimes it's nice to play a barbarian or fighter that just ploughs through the opposition, other times it good to have the more complex options with other classes. But I don't wear rouge when I play!
