Does something like this feat exist?

The Cardinal

First Post
I'm looking for a feat that allows an effect similar to the Samurai's "Ancestral Daisho" ability, i.e. the magical upgrading of weapons over time (=levels).
Does something like this exist already, or do I need to houserule this? I was thinking it should probably work like this:

Heirloom (General, can only be taken at first level)

The character possesses a set of masterwork weapons or armor that are inherently magical. To "unlock" those magical abilities the character has to have a certain level (see the Samurai in OA), and pay 20XP per gp the equivalent enchantment would cost (see DMG), e.g. a +1 weapon would require 100XP, while upgrading a +2 to a +3 weapon would cost 500XP. This feat allows up to two weapons, up to one shield, and up to one suit of armor.

Oriental Adventures in one of the Rokugan books has "Soul Forge." Prerequisite is Iron Will. Lets you pick an ancestral weapon just like a samurai's Ancestral Weapon ability.

There's also one for armor, but I am blanking on it and where to find it, but it's Rokugani.

There's also the "Psychic" weapon modifier from PsiHB. I like it, but it's a friggin +5 modifier, so it's a wee bit expensive.

Cardinal, have you written anything up on this feat you are trying to create/house rule? I would really like to see it because it is a very neat prospect. If you have written anything could you post a link?

There is a psionic prestige class called the pyschic weapons master on the WoTC site in their online rules supplements. They give abilities to their weapons as they gain levels.

Also Legends and Lairs has something exactly like what you are describing. I think it is in Spells and Spellcraft. Where you devote a number of experience points to a weapon and it can gain levels. Either you sacrafice exp for it or it gains exp itself.

I personally like the idea. I find Legends and Lairs version decent enough. The prestige classes and such that provide weapon advancement I find don't always scale right with character level.

Also you could always take a look at the older darksun stuff. If I remember correctly they had rules for allowing weapons to advance.

Merry Christmas if you celebrate it!!!!!!! =o)

@Berk: is this in S&S I or II? And does it require a feat or is it a "use with any item/weapon" system?

@dkilgo: I've just thought that up, so you've already read all there is to it ;) - I might use it with the 1/10 variant hong mentioned.
