D&D 4E Does the 4E Magic Item Compendium mean there will be no items in the 4E DMG?

My theory....they put them all in this book.

Got a shred of proof to back up the idea that there'll be Magic Item Compendium books? Because I haven't seen anything at all. One can just as easily say that any magic items cut from the initial release of books will find their way into the PHBII or DMGII.

Well, on the EnWorld home page, there is an Amazon link to a Magic Item Compendium I for 4e.

But I agree, it is an unfounded fear. There will be MIs in the DMG1, but the vast number of unique and wondrous stull will move to MIC1.

Is this "shred" enough for ya? http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Item-Co...r_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1198774704&sr=8-12

Just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Ah, ENWorld. Where seeing really is believing - and the only way anything will ever be believed.

Huh. This is what I get for looking here for information, as there was no mention of that book.

The Player's Handbook appears to have some magic items, too.

Player's Handbook: June 2008 (hardcover, 288 pages) -- "The Player’s Handbook® features a new cover design, a fresh new page layout, new character options, new magic items, and new rules that facilitate faster and more exciting gameplay from level 1 to level 30." (Cover may change). Amazon.com is listing the 4th Edition PHB for $29.95 USD. Amazon.ca is listing it for CDN$ 23.95. Amazon.co.uk lists it for £15.36. "The Player's Handbook presents the official Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game rules as well as everything a player needs to create D&D characters worthy of song and legend: new character races, base classes, paragon paths, epic destinies, powers, more magic items, weapons, armor, and much more. "

Better then believing anything and everything you read on the internet. I've seen far to many instances of people taking what other people post as fact, when it's anything but.

There's a reason we deleted the  smiley. It transforms already rude sarcasm into something much more infuriating.

Which doesn't excuse Green Knight from being rude, mind you. It just doesn't help. We're best off giving one another the benefit of the doubt.

In any case, thanks for settling the issue before it got out of hand.

Sorry about that. Can I really be faulted for missing news which only came out today? :p It's just that in recent days I've seen numerous posts on other forums where people misread something, and then post something completely erroneous based on their misreading of information, and before you know it, you've got people complaining about things which aren't actually occuring. It gets a bit frustrating after a while.

Yeah, makes sense if they put a few in the core books and then release more in MIC books...

4e seems to be "specializing" the books... Perhaps in an attempt to counter the "I would have bought that book but there were too many X in it..."

Each of the books will be specific to its topic, and not expected to contain new stuff for every element of the game...

My understanding is that magic items will be appearing first in the PHB and *not* in the DMG at all. Certainly that's what all the discussion to date has said.

Also worth knowing: A few months back, WotCers on the WotC boards were asking fans "Would you rather see a book called Magic Item Compendium or Arms & Equipment Guide?" MIC won handily, I think. The question is "Were they asking what content players were more interested in or were they asking which title was more appealing?" In other words, the MIC may also have a fair share of non-magical A&E type content.

What makes me shudder is the "I" in the book's title. Here was hoping that cutting down the Christmas tree would also mean a reduction in the number of magic items. But now it looks like one Magic Item Compendium per year. *Shudder*. :(
