Does the AC bonus from a shield and the AC bonus from armor stack?

I dislike false advertising in real life, and I dislike it on message boards.
I agree, and apologize. But I gotta ask, now:

Why did you come into this thread? I'm not asking to be snarky or snide, but rather to see if it is for the same reason I check out threads for easy questions: to see why in the world such a simple question can have so many replies.

It's almost like looking at a single, undamaged car on the side of the road -- what about this situation caused half an hour worth of backed up traffic?

---space to drop the real question out of the preview pop-up---

Something I find really funny in this forum, is how a thread with a question (in the subject line or preview) that you'd think could be quickly and easily answered ends up with 30+ responses.

Just amazes me how that happens. No other real comment on that subject.

But since you are in this thread anyway, here is a real question:

When someone at the game table, probably a newbie, asks a simple question, do you give the simplest, most straight-forward answer? Or do you add every little possible option?

For instance,

"Can I do X?"

Do you answer, "Yes" or "No"?

Or do you add, "If you had A and B feats, you could. Or if you are of the Y prestige class, you could, but only with M and N weapons. And the spell from H supplement will allow T classes to do it, if you are of E race."

When a player asks me if they can do X, I usually try to answer straight and simple. Then after the game session, I'd explain the other options if the player was interested. But I've seen some players who will take 10 minutes of game time to explain every possible option to the other player right then. This drives me crazy when it happens.

I usually say yes you can(even without feats or skills) and they most of the time fail(if they don't have the feats, skill and such).

That said, shouldn't the rest of your post be moved to General Discussion?

Since he was addressing the Rules Forum posters about a specific Rule Forum matter, I think it's fine.

I suppose that really hard questions aren't worth arguing about. The really simple questions may challenge people's basic assumptions - and most folks do not go quietly into the night when you poke at basic assumptions.

There is NO WAY the AC bonus from a shield and armor stack. If you look in the DMG, page 222, 97th word, you can see that I'm right.

I heard somewhere that a guy who was almost a game designer said that that was never the intestion of the authors, so it's WRONG !

Think about it, if Armor and Shields stacked, it would be BROKEN! You could have a huge AC and nobody could hit you, as I said, BROKEN !

Finally, if shields and armor stacked, there wouldn't be so many naked-lady adventurers (naked, but with HUGE tower shields). Nobody wants to house rule the naked tower shield ladies out of the game, that's just not D&D! ! !

They do sooo stack! I once heard from my big brother who was at a convention that someone talked to him about his cousin who actually met GARY GYGAX!! And he told him that the reason for the naked women in D&D is the unreleased _real_ Comeliness mechanic! The one with the table showing how much parcent of your body have to be covered by armour to get the AC!! But of course the bad managers were into TSR eben back then, so they had to cancel it. He just could make a censored variant in Unearthed Arcana! Can you say Silver Princess? Hellooo?
