Dogs

A minor point, to be sure, but anyone think dogs should have some sort of racial ability to be more useful with Handle Animal?

I'm thinking of something like:
If the dog regards a character as its master (raised the dog, otherwise spent a lot of time with the dog) and the master is trained in Handle Animal, the DC to train the dog is -4 for any tricks or general purposes.

If the master is untrained in Handle Animal, she may train the dog (normally you cannot train without ranks of Handle Animal), but DC is normal.

It's a minor issue, but dogs have a capacity and ability to learn from humans that is pretty rare amongst animals.

Makes sense, I would say. However, bear in mind that in certain situations, pigs display more learning ability than canines. Perhaps they should be entitled to this bonus as well?

Only kidding, of course. I guess what I'm getting at is that a Druid with a pig animal companion would be worth a giggle or two.

Desire not capacity. Rats learn more readily than dogs in laboratory studies but they don't idolize humans so they tend to throw less effort into it.

Honestly, this is a minor enough point that I'd just say to reduce the training DCs by 2. Mostly though, it is needless complexity in my opinion.
