Don't quit your day job!

Does anybody here works on RPG publishing full-time? If not what is it that keeps you fed?

The little writing I've done I did for fun (and a little profit). My parents feed me. :D

I work as a freelancer full-time and right now one of the jobs I have I receive steady pay each month, which is nice.

I live at home with my parents and do all yardwork, house maintenance and snow shoveling instead of paying room and board. That works out fine.

However, the drawback is no health insurance. So if you have a day job that has insurance, keep it. Because the moment you don't have it, you'll need it.

I am a programmer by day night and weekend, but when I'm not doing that I write for rpgs.

I know anna well enough to say that she struggles even living at home.

I definatly don't recommend quiting your day job to be a d20 writter unless you can get a salary somewhere.

Doug does this full time alone to be open and honest.

Look I rolled a natural 20 on my bluff Hal check and another one to hit the fire giant.

I work as an IT management professional for a fortune 500 company during the day, as a full-time parent of two young children in the evenings, as a graduate student (at least for a little while), and as an author when I can. Of course, maybe that is why I'm not very prolific. Throw in the weekly tueday night game and a chronic addiction to NWN and scripting development and its easy to see why the grass is so high. Mix in shabbat observance and... well, you get the point.

It is hard to imagine anyone could write for a full-time living, especially if they had kids.

I am a full time cartographer/illustrator in the RPG industry and making ends meet can be a struggle. I live in my own home (only a few months old) and I am supporting my wife while she goes through veterinary school. We share one car since I work at home and we try to do a lot of things that are fun but don't cost a lot of money like camping, hiking and going to the beach. Living 45 minutes from Lake Tahoe doesn't hurt for cheap outdoor fun.

Life will be a lot easier when we have two incomes, but we get by.
