Downer - I just don't get it

As for old comics I want to see come back, Wormy is definitely it.. but considering all I've read is that the creator dropped off the face of the earth and literally NO ONE seems to have clue 1 where to look for him

I know where Dave Trampier is; he was tracked down a few years ago, and last I heard is having fun driving a cab (I won't say where due to respect for his privacy.) He wants nothing to do with the hobby, though. I don't know the details of why that is.

Downer is great. I look foward to it each issue. As I do Mt. Zogon.

Downer is the way we play the game. Cool, Funny and Brutal. I like it when the main guy gets his foot destroyed. And the "underworld" that is presented is really cool. I like all the diffrent creatures that were hanging out in the bar. I like the xorn merchant/necromancer(?). I hope more people that find the strip funny mange to find this post and post their (good) impressions of it.

Also I like the new dungeon. If I wanted amatuer modules I would do them myself. We have critiqued the hell out of dragon and (esp.) Dungeon. I dont think they have a good handle on what "we" want or dont want. So many of use are so free with telling them what to remove and what to keep in the magazine. I have seen many of the fine "improvments" to the magazines get axed becuse a dozen folks have whinned about it on the internet.

I really hope they keep Downer. But im not going to abandon the magazine if they dont do as I demand. Keep up the good work Dungeon Staff.

I'd have to agree that what plot there is to Downer it pretty well obscured - but I do look forward to each installment. If for no other reason than the hope that something will finally begin to bring everything together into a cohesive whole.

As to the color palette and style of the drawing itself; it's not what I'd choose, but then again you REALLY don't want me drawing a cartoon - unless you like incomprehensible stick-esque figures and primary colors...
(no, I'm not 7 years old, but I draw like it :D )
<-edit->I just checked out The Order of the Stick. Perhaps I should reconsider my artistic abilities? Nah. I couldn't even do sticks as well as TOotS...

Anyhow, I do miss Nodwick - I liked that the cartoon generally tied in with whatever adventure it appeared with, and was generally funny to boot.

I haven't checked out any of the other gaming related cartoons y'all have posted about, but thanks for the links! ;)

All I got to say to that is..

Damn shame.. he was one of my favorities

ah well

I had no idea there was so much hate for Downer. I love it! I like Mt Zogon too. Wormy was great, Yamara was ok, and Snarfquest was awful. IMHO, of course.

I just found Downer extremely off-putting and haven't looked at it since the second installment. Mt. Zogon: I do like that a lot. I have to say that Order of the Stick would be a marvelous addition; I just found it last week and it put me on the floor a couple of times. Even took my current .sig from it.

I agree that Downer is hard to follow and that the artwork is too busy. Overall, I'd be glad to see it go. I have no problem with Mt Zogon. It's not always funny, but sometimes is and doesn't take up much space, so whatever.

I'm not familiar with Order of the Stick, I guess I'll have to check it out.

I don't like Downer at all. The colors. art, story: I just don't get it.
Mt. Zogon I like and I would love OoTS to see publication.

As for the older comics Nodwick is fine with me but I was never a fan of Snarfquest.

Erik is extremely ethical. I have no doubt that if told that people want a change, he and Keith Strohm will consider changing comics. The only concern that I see is that Downer might have a 12 issue contract or something similar.
I'm not accusing him of doing anythig illegal.

Maybe Downer was the best of his options when selecting a new comic to run, covering two pages (at least in issue #108 it was two full pages). Yeah. maybe.
