DR and Antimagic

Dragon Mage

First Post
I rememeber reading somewhere on how Antimagic effected damage reduction, but I can't seem to find it now. Is DR a supernatural ability and therefore is suppressed by antimagic? Can someone point me to rules covering this in the core books?

Some types are extraordinary, others are supernatural.

If I recall correctly, Magic, Epic, and (Alignment) are Su, while (Material) and (Nothing) are Ex.

Indeed. But Magic, Epic, (Aligment), and most (Material) are Su, while /-, adamantine, and weapon type (Slashing, piercing, bludgeoning) are Ex

I remembered it was something along these lines.

I always thought all Special Material DR's were [Ex].. To join the chorus, I'd like to see the source, too.

This is addressed (partially) in the Errata for the Monster Manual:

Damage Reduction
Damage Reduction is either extraordinary (Ex) or supernatural (Su). Use the following guidelines if it is not specified.

• DR X/slashing, piercing, or bludgeoning should be (Ex)
• DR X/adamantine should be (Ex)
• DR X/-- should be (Ex)
• DR X/silver or cold iron should be (Su)
• DR X/magic should be (Su)
• DR X/chaotic, lawful, holy, or unholy should be (Su)

It doesn't give any guidance on how they came up with these or what to do about other forms of damage reduction, though. For example, is DR X/adamantine and magic (Su) or (Ex)?

The closest thing I can find is the FAQ, which states that DR X/magic and X/alignment are supernatural, and all others (X/damage type, X/material, and X/-) are extraordinary. I would guess that they include X/epic in X/magic.
