As I've said before, while I do appreciate what Russel T Davies has done in bringing Doctor Who back to the popular mainstream, he's stumbled quite badly in penning some of the recent episodes (particularly that lame deus ex machina ending to Season 3 and of course, Voyage of the Damned). Which leaves me wary of the stories he's penning this season, particularly the season finale. C'mon RTD, enough w/ the deus ex machina!

The other stories I'm willing to take a chance, though I've no idea how they'll turn out. With the exception of Stephen Moffat of course, as I'm sure his story will be another winner. The man has proven time and again to be the new series ace in the hole, much like the late Douglas Adams was in the old series.

I thought season 3 was very hit + miss. "Daleks in New York" was easily the weakest storyline, and that's putting it mildly.

Even some of the best stories (the Dr. taking on the identity to hide out in pre-wwI england) should have been fleshed out a bit more.

And the fantastic 3-episode season ending had a very unsatisfying climax.

In fairness, some episodes were really good (New New York, Shakespeare, etc), but to me there were just too many misses.

What do you all think of Catherine Tate as Donna? I liked her in "Runaway Bride," but hope they tone down Donna's shrillness a bit. It was appropriate for the character in that situation (all that bizarreness on her wedding day), but it would be too much to bear for an entire season.

I've actually seen her other show, the "Catherine Tate Show", and I am confident that she can pull it off. She shows a great deal of acting range on her own show, playing many different characters... and I am sure she can handle this new job.

However, it all comes down to the writer rather than the actress -- will they make her into an over-the-top character? Or will they tone her down?

Just look at Jack. He's great on Dr. Who, but totally lame on Torchwood. Why? Because of the writing.

The fact that it comes down to the writing worries me a bit, but there's nothing I can do about it. So, I'll just wait for it to hit the airwaves and hope for the best.

I searched the BBC America web site for her show, and of course they're not showing it (or are hiding the schedule very well on the web site). Drat!
