Dragon 301

Once again, in the immortal words of the comic book guy, WORST ISSUE EVER!!!!

Seems that since the change in publisher for Dragon each issue is worse than the one before it.

I am so glad that I did not renew my subscription.

Ghoti, I'd love to know what your specific complaints are. As it is, no one can agree or disagree with you, since we don't know which parts you object to.

My impression of issue #301:

I like this kind of issue (that is, lots of different crunchy bits) but this particular one didn't have much for me.

Thats the plan Buttercup!

No really, I left my magizine at home so you will have to wait a day or so before I can post my exact compalints.

But I do not agree that fencing feats were any good at all, really the cover says that it has sword fighting rules, or something like that, but then the article is about Swashbucklers.... Which is nothing like sword fighting.

Then it goes on to talk about swashbucklers from other classes, even those that do not use any type of sword....

Give me a break, its a joke.

Also, I now someone said it has stuff for rouges....err....rogues, but that, in my opinion was rather light.

Seems that Dragon and become nothing more than popular fluff nowadays.

Actually, I liked the article on swashbuckling, including the fencing feats. It did exactly what it was intended to do -- it got me thinking. Since I read the article a couple of days ago I've been puttering with a new campaign that would combine material from that article with the two other articles they referred to (the one on Wit and the Honor system from the Knights issue). I don't konw if I'll ever play it, but I'm enjoying the exercise of playing around with the ideas.

Perhaps you expect to much. I'm pleased if I find a couple of articles like that each month. I don't expect that every single thing in the magazine will suit my tastes or needs.

Actually I'm hoping to see more issues like #s 299 and 301 and fewer (none?) like other past issues that were "ads for the new WOTC book" IMHO. *This* is the kind of material I wanted when I subscribed. Thinkpieces. Idea generators. I wouldn't have minded so much if past issues had gone into, say, "how to work ideas from the latest book into your campaign," but I got the impression the theme articles were "stuff we couldn't fit into the latest book's page count." The issue themes that were built around seeming "leftovers" irked me. :)

Right now I haven't got much *need* for style plug-ins like Chivalry or Swashbuckling, but personally I *enjoyed* the Campaign Components issues... much more, in fact, than I did *certain* previous issues that centered on books I'm not planning on purchasing. (As if to compound my frustration, my magazines routinely arrived in the mail a month or so *before* the books they "supplemented" arrived at my FLGS.) YMMV.
