Kind of a meh issue so far IMO. Maybe my opinion will change as I read more, but nothing is really striking me as 'this is so cool we gotta get it out before the magazine ends!' or as particularly interesting unfortunately.

I got my issue yesterday....

Kaorti are sweet. I love the flavor James did.

Volo's Guide > Mulhorand/Unther...doesn't seem very 'new'. Maybe because I read all the material about the region, but it really hasn't change. The best part for me was seeing the map of the occupied area. I also liked seeing the bits about the Pharaoh and some of his generals. Admittedly I don't understand why they are human. You'd think they'd be either Aasimar or half-celestial.

Core Beliefs: St Cuthbert > I liked the new summoning list. We really need some more guidance in creating custom summoning lists and things like this help.

side note...I think I comment here at enworld more about Dragon/dungeon issues than any other thread. I'm going to miss my subscriptions....Dragon since #72 and Dungeon since #1.

What's the Fragments of Prophecy article like? One of the campaigns I'm running involves the Seven Caves in the Seawall Mountains. Is this location mentioned in the article?

The main focus is on how the Prophecy manifests in the world.

The Eldeen Sections: They once found the Lesser Mark of Warding in a tree ring of a cut tree.

The Marks of the Obsidian Flow: In the Mournland, on the Glass Plateau, there is a waterfall of black glass. Draconic runes appear and disappear upon it, but it is guarded by Living Freezing Fogs.

Ant Runes: A den of giant ants was recently exposed by an earthquake in eastern Seren. The ants arrange the bones of their prey in the shape of runes.

Lhesh Firegems: In northern Darguun, giant firebeetles occasionally have gem-like pellets in their dung. These "firegems" react explosively to divination magics.

Sulerred Calling Tree: At a monestary in Zilargo, there is a unusual tree with a huge mass of roots with patterns and symbols. Once a year, people bring recently dead to the tree and one body is reincarnated and the monks take note of the symbols around that body.

They all sound great. No mention of the Seven Caves though? It's one of the few places in the ECS where dragonmarks are mentioned manifesting.

Are these gnomish monks?

The most interesting thing about the Saint Cuthbert article was the insistance that Cuthbert really is a good deity, Player's Handbook notwithstanding.

Harsh, unbending, and (largely) humorless, yes. Prone to violence, yes. But also humble, charitable, and even kind in a very rough way. The church really emphasizes an 'all are created equal' type of lawfulness over the more hierarchical lawfulness you see in a lot of lawful D&D churches. Humility and common sense are played up big time.

It made me think that a cleric of St. Cuthbert would be great for playing a down home 'country doctor' type who doesn't hold with new-fangled silliness and slick talk. You could do a Granny Weatherwax type easily.
