Dragon 371 Table of Contents

sigh. I was hoping we wouldn't be dealing with vampire-blooded. I've had it up to here with Blade knockoffs.

Yaay zombies.

I'm in favor of zombies and vampire themed monsters, but mainly because I'm about to start my group through a conversion of I6/EtCR. I really hope the zombies are Friday's article.

edit: Also, that may not be the final ToC, since all the links I've found from the Wizards site still point to Dragon 370's ToC, and links to the columns published today haven't been added to the issue 371's ToC. The OP probably tweaked the 370 ToC URL to get to it.

Nope. I clicked on the "Dragon 371" in the blue banner at the top of the Warden preview.

Ah, well, just shows to go ya that they don't have all their ducks in a row yet, since clicking on "Table of Contents" under the Dragon section of the main navigation (left hand column) still takes you to 370.

But they're torn between their thirst and revulsion at their very existence, Rechan! Oh, to be a Dhampyr, eternally hated by kin on both sides!

Puke.

Here's an idea: Instead of a write-up for a race involving people with "vampiric blood," which is completely stupid, how about we just get a write-up for a playable race of...VAMPIRES?! :rant:

I must need more sleep, I don't usually get worked up like this before noon.

Because of the ever-present weaknesses (and strengths) of vampires. It's a great idea - until the PCs go out in sunlight. :) "Sorry guys, I don't have my SPF 9000".

I'm not a huge fan of it myself, but I know there are plenty of people out there that want to play half-vampires... One of the guys in my group is already happy about it. (He likes all things undead though so...)

For my part... Vampires are kind of played out. They've been played out since like 98. (I'm lookin at you Ann Rice!!!)

Zombies are kind of cool now... But then again they have to chill on all things Zombie because they're gettin close to being played out as well.

Maybe ghosts can make a comeback? They seriously need a better frontman then Patrick Swayze... 1/2 ghost... that would be pretty crazy.

Half-Ghosts sounds kinda cool.
<Racial Power>
Encounter
Minor Action - Range Personal - You become insubstantial until the start of your next turn.

<Paragon Racial Feat>
When you use your racial power, you also gain the phasing quality.

Ah, well that's a start. ;)

You could easily convert it into a move action (and make it say, on par with the Shadar-kai power). Instead of a teleport, grant a movement + insubstantial. That way, when the paragon feat allows for phasing, then they can use the move action to move through objects + the phasing.

If you really wanted to go far out there, one could easily start playing with the notion. Instead of just being a "Half Ghost", they are a ghost, but one who can't go immaterial (except for the racial quality). Perhaps because their connection to the Shadowfell has been shunted. Or they are bound to something very corporeal (an object), and by resting they recede back into the object. This provides some interesting play (an enemy stealing the object, thereby capturing the ghost; one of the PCs constantly carrying the object, and the dynamic between the ghost and the PC).

Although honestly, I would be happy with a walking corpse; not a zombie, but a free-willed, intelligent body with some flesh. A necropalitan, a forsaken, etc.

Because vampires are evil, bloodsucking demons of the night and Eastern European folklore considered dhampir to be adept at detecting and killing them, which fits with both 4e's "The World Needs Heroes" (not "The World Needs a Rape Metaphor") theme and the fact that they are actually delving into real world mythology and folklore for things.
